Boys and girls are driven by biology to play with toys that are traditionally aimed at their own gender, according to a new study.
The research found that an innate drive pushes boys to prefer trucks and cars and aggressive toys such as guns or toy soldiers.
A similar inbuilt instinct may be the reason why girls have always liked to play with dolls, cosmetics or toys based on domestic life, it said.
But the impact of feminism on parents, advertising and media may be a reason why girls have been less keen on dolls, make-up and kitchen toys in recent years, according to the research paper.
Girls are more likely than boys to be influenced as they grow up by parents, the adults and children around them, and what they read and see on television, it said, while boys stick to boys toys.
The study produced by a team led by psychologists from City, University of London, was based on evidence collected by different researchers across the Western world over decades, with some dating back to the 1930s.
It said: Despite methodological variation in the choice and number of toys offered, context of testing, and age of child, the consistency in finding sex differences in childrens preferences for toys typed to their own gender indicates the strength of this phenomenon and the likelihood that it has a biological origin.
The paper added that there were robust differences between the toy choices of girls and boys, and that this was so across decades and in different experiments.
This, the study said, indicates an innate influence on this behaviour.
The findings come at a time of deepening controversy over the choice of toys made by children, and heightened awareness over transgender issues.

I know my daughter is hardwired to be a girl. I remember when she was 3 or four years old, she asked me to play with her and her toy dinosaurs. “Okay” I said, “let’s play the dinosaurs have a war”.
“No Daddy, the dinosaurs are going to have a wedding” she replied.
Ahhh, but libs think we can be re-programmed.
Gender refers to language.
There are two sexes, male and female, everything else is delusion.
Thats adorable.

I was working for this Christian charity.
They would call staff meetings ever couple of weeks and the CEO would have a football analogy for whatever point he was trying to make.
One day an administrative assistant asked him why he always chose sports analogies instead of something women could relate too.
He said “well there’s nothing that women all relate to like men relate to sports.” And then he thought for a moment and said “Maybe weddings”. And I’m thinking that’s brilliant! Yeah what do women love more than weddings?
She said “NOOO!” And we died laughing. Because if not weddings then his first statement was correct.
Everything old is new again!
Worked with 2 year old boys and girls in Sunday School back in the 80’s. The church had wooden blocks in a room where the kids could build anything they could imagine without neing prompted by any adult.
Surprise surpise. The boys built forts, weapons, tanks and what not in one corner. The girls built houses and furniture in the other.
The only adult intervention was keeping the boys from attacking the girl’s houses and destroying them.
LOL! Similar story, told to me for true by a wonderful neighborhood mother:
Daddy gave preschooler Emilia her brother’s trucks to play with. She put them in a circle and put little hats on them, Quickly escalating, she gave each one a name, and started matchmaking the girl trucks with the boy trucks.
They put a range of toys in front of the kids, trucks and guns for the boys. And, dolls and toy dishes for the girls.
Then they turned the kids loose. To the shock of the liberal mothers and the info babe the kids, who had never been raised to be either boy or girl segregated themselves.
The boys gravitated to the boy toys and began playing with the truck and guns, running around shooting each other. The girls gravitated to the dolls and dishes and began playing house.
What a shock!
Only have to be a parent to know this. I never purposely tried to aim my children in any direction, but boys just like playing guns and building models. The girls aren’t so much into dolls, but they prefer playing board games, and watching Chopped or Flip or flop, and less active things than the boys.
It is evident in adults as well. Try having a games night with mixed sexes. Do you know any women would want to play RISK or AXIS and ALLIES or any war based game? No, they want to play social games like Apples to Apples. In fact my girls (10 and 12) will play games with similar mechanics to war games, but are not about “attacking” but about “Collecting” instead.
Our 2 year old granddaughter puts her dolls neatly in a row and nurtures them gently.
Her 2 year old cousin, our grandson, rips through and sweeps them violently onto the floor.
She looks at him, perplexed and troubled, then picks them up one at a time, restoring them to their places.
One is a woman, one is a man.
“Boys and girls are driven by biology to play with toys that are traditionally aimed at their own gender, according to a new study.”
And? How much money was squandered on this “study”?
I’ve always thought that that is the prime reason feminazi’s are 24/7 miserable bioches - they’re constantly fighting nature.
Same goes for male homosexuals.
I agree with you that many things are arbitrary and don’t have to be “girl” or “boy” activities. Such as cooking, medicine, what colors they like, ect...
But I am being truthful that my boys just naturally gravitate to play fighting, guns, ect.
But yes, we don’t want to take that too far. We have this idea that women are better at expressing feelings than boys. In fact my 7 year old son is very outspoken about his feelings, telling us when his scared, or upset, and just tells us that he loves us out of the blue. While my oldest daughter will never admit being upset about something.
And this, boys and girls, is how we get Volkswagen Beetles ...;'}
You’re as wrong as you can be.
