Oh my. What a bad question to loft huh.

Well, those are the funerals you were carting him to over the last ten years.

Sadly, that’s right, they’re gone.

I’ll be 67 in May. Pushing 70 for wall it’s worth... LOL

I’ve noticed a few things that are different, but I’ll be honest, I feel better than I did at 45. My health issues corrected themselves to a degree.

I lost the major veins in my legs when I was 41-42. For a few years I would really swell up if I walked or sat for long periods. I’ve had my lower legs swell up at least double size on occasion. Today, my peripheral veins have kicked in, and I can walk around all day without support socks. I do wear them when I am out though.

For years I couldn’t walk up a 3% incline for more than a block or two without resting. If I rode a bike, I would go about two blocks under pressure, and have to get off the bik and lay down. The blood immediately pooled in my legs. I had to get it back to my head, and laying down was the only way. People would see me and think I had a heart attack. No, I was just resting. It was sometimes hard to convince them that was all it was.

Several years ago a friend asked me to support his charity by walking up a hiking trail. That trail went up 1000 feet in about one mile.

I made it 3/4s of the way up that trail without stopping. I rested a few minutes and completed it. I was literally shocked. I had no idea I had that ability any longer.

Today I’m riding the mo-ped, and peddling quite a bit.

I recently rode it from Glendale College (Glendale, CA.) to Boston and Santa Carlotta in La Crescenta, CA. That’s a trip of about six miles and has some serious elevation challenges. There’s probably a 750 to 1000 foot increase in elevation.

The ride there is tough. Coming home, it’s down hill all the way.

I highly recommend my mo-ped to anyone. It’s great.

Thanks Laplata.

I mention things like this, because there may be another person out there who has had the same problem, and they may not know that the circulation of this type can get considerably better over time.

Take care. Nice talking with you.

LOL I agree Fungi, but some folks just can’t help “fixing” things like this and making a comment. I try to head that off by posting a correction so they know I’m already aware of it.

I don’t like seeing the wrong for of words used, so I try to avoid it too.

I appreciate the response.

Please keep us posted Tomorrow how he is doing.

My brother-in-law John is doing fine, in recovery after transplant surgery that went from 10 p.m. last night through 1 p.m, this afternoon. Your prayers worked, and thanks again. He has a new liver and it is functioning. Not out of the woods yet, will remain in hospital for a couple weeks to get his failing kidneys going again and then it's therapy. My sister was falling apart but now is relieved. She'll be staying at my home tonight so we'll be talking about our mortality and such. And taking care of things ahead of time before our time comes. I know I have a lot of loose ends to take care of, so my wife won't panic. Sister is going to update her trust, and I will do same.

Excellent, it's good exercise. Similar to your experience although not as bad, I had experienced swelling in my legs due to vein problems that sent me to the doctor's office. That's behind me now. I recently bought an e-bike, to give me an assist going up hills. The electric motor won't kick in without me pedaling, so I do get exercise, especially at the lowest assist setting. I'm working up a good sweat cycling locally in my neighborhood a few miles at a time going up and down hills. Trying to do it daily. I would recommend an e-bike for most seniors, as it is more strenuous exercise than walking. And more fun.

My bike has an assist mode, but it will also take over if my legs are burning a bit too much, or if I feel as if I'm overdoing it a bit too much. That's perfect, because as my endurance expands, I'll be able to use the full power mode less and less. Right now I only use it on inclines. Down or flat, I just use it as a bicycle.

It's really a nice piece of equipment. I like using the assist at the lowest level because it really extends the life of the battery.

When I can, I don't use assist at all. In traffic you need to, but when I'm just out in a non-heavy traffic area, I can go at my own pace. Then, if at all possible, I simply use it as a bicycle.

With the assist I'm easily up over 20 mph and have had it up around 25 plus.

I've got the four inch tires and I can go off-road. I've had it on the beach at Jalama Beach, up above Santa Barbara. It works good in moist or packed sand, but when it's a fine powder, it sinks in and gets overwhelmed. I road about a mile up the coast at the surf line, and then back and down at least a mile in the other direction. Man, what a kick.

I got it so I could go down to the pacific ocean and ride the bike paths down there.

I realized I needed more exercise, and I'm getting it now.

Good luck and strength to the whole family! Happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you so much for being so nice! My sister said the doctors told her after removing his liver, it was completely messed up and dead, that John might not live an additional day without having had the transplant. It was that close. With drugs, therapy and time his kidneys will recover. They couldn't handle all the toxins due to his non-functioning liver which was poisoning his body. My sister was going hysterical, I told her she has a lot to be thankful for. Last month they got evacuated due to the Sonoma fires, but their home survived amongst others that burned. And this month he gets a transplant and a second lease on life. I say that's a lot to be thankful for on Thanksgiving.

He was almost too pretty for a boy, and he had a decent voice. But maybe his too early success was not good for him and hurt him by making him need an escape in alcohol or even made him depressed when he was no longer a teenybopper. He was a nice man. Fame wasn’t kind to him.
