MEMPHIS, Tenn. —A jury has returned a guilty verdict in the 2016 hair weave triple murder.

Shelby Isaac, 19, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder, one count of reckless homicide and one count of criminally negligent homicide.

Isaac fell to the ground in shock as the first guilty verdict was read around 7 p.m. Friday after about three hours of deliberations.

When I read the article, my take away was that she was totally shocked that she would be held accountable.

I’ve been in courthouses in the metro Atlanta area when families of the accused and the victim have turned a sentencing hearing into a WWF performance. Literal brawls, shouting and screaming. Requiring lots of bailiffs and sheriff’s deputy’s to restore order. Which kinda puts the icing on the cake. The entire reason the trial was necessary was a lack of respect for rule of law, and so, after the state spends a lot of resources respecting due process and substantive criminal law, the family observers on both sides incorrectly interpret it as an “our team vs. your team” outcome. No concept of a body of criminal law which is prosecuted by the state on behalf of all citizens of the state, not a private battle. Hopeless.
