Rare comic book featuring Superman's first appearance... expected to fetch up to $1.2 MILLION
Daily Mail ^ | 17 November 2017

Posted on 11/17/2017 12:02:11 PM PST by mairdie

The copy in question is rare because it is what's known as a silver print - these comics are exceedingly rare because in the 1930s, publishers would create black and white copies of the comics for artists to fill in themselves - making the copy going to auction one-of-a-kind.

'This is one of the rarest, most historically significant items we've offered,' said Stephen Fishler, founder and co-owner of ComicConnect.com.

Only around 100 original copies of Action Comics #1 are estimated to be extant - they're significant because they're Superman's first appearance in comic books. In 2014, a copy of Action Comics #1 sold for more than $3 million at auction - the only comic book to have attained such a high price.

Lol I was a copper miner. I worked in mines of one sort or another for my working life. Mostly copper in Arizona until 1984 then gold and nickel finally. They kept closing them down on me except the gold mine which I left for a higher pay rate.

The problem is that these were printed on acid based pulp paper.they deteriorate very rapidly especially in sunlight. As a collector item they are worthless

“If I still had my comic books from the 60’s...”

I still have the first two issues (and they might be the only two issues) of Wonder Warthog. They’re in decent shape and might have some value but I don’t intend to part with them. I bought them right off the newsstand in 1966.

Gene powder? Sounds like the old 1970’s homemade smoke bomb. Saltpeter and sugar...smoke for days. Or it caused spontaneous mutations.

Dude, I made so much money in the Cub Scouts selling greeting cards door to door.

I always took the cash.

Either save up the sale points for plastic junk or take $1 cash from each item sold.

Every time camp or something came around or I needed a new knife...Go sell me some greeting cards. :)

Never understood how comic books, cookie jars and paintings are worth millions. There was the other painting of ketchup on canvas that fetched a few million this week, too. Fools and their money.

I visited a copper mine in Arizona! Absolutely fascinating. I'm remembering bubbles on a flowing metallic surface, but no idea what the memory is about.

Grandfather was Jack Bell. He had a copper-gold claim that started the Buckskin stampede. Won and lost fortunes from Alaska down to Central America. Stetson and six shooter, with a gunfight at the bottom of a silver mine.

Not a fool if they sell it in two years to someone else for a few million more.

You are a super salesman. I tried selling greeting cards from the ads once. Mother had to buy them all.

I can’t tell you how deeply sorry I am. An absolutely terrible story. So glad that she’s not in your life anymore. Hope that you’ve gotten new collections that you love almost as much.

There was a nihilistic school of art that published on paper MEANT to self-destruct in a very short time. Stupidest thing I ever studied. Well, probably much like performance art if you don’t video/film it.
