Texas A&M will be going after Jimbo Fisher, report says

Could Jimbo Fisher be heading to the SEC?

Texas A&M is getting ready to ask about the Florida State coach's interest in leading the Aggies, USA Today reported.

Texas A&M would make the move after it informs current coach Kevin Sumlin that he won't be returning, according to the report.

Fisher already has a long and solid relationship with Texas A&M athletics director Scott Woodward, both of whom were at LSU in the early 2000s. Along with the fact that the Seminoles are only 3-6 this season, USA Today sources indicate it might not be that hard to persuade Fisher to coach at A&M.

And that’s the way it should be.

Isn’t he on the hot seat at FSU?

He shouldn't be after just one losing season, given his previous seven year record at FSU, including one BCS Championship in 2013.

But maybe he's ready for a change of scenery?

On a related topic, I'd love to see DJT halt all federal funding to colleges built upon BS degrees for student athletes. No GI Bill, no vouchers, no research grants, no nothing.

Promote scholarship that produces patriots able the reason and solve math and engineering problems. Then watch the NFL and our underlying culture change.

Best thing that could be done is force the NFL & NBA to have a legitimate “farm system (minor league)” like major league baseball. Most “big time” college athletes don’t belong in college. They know it, as does everyone else. But we all participate in this mass fantasy that they do!

There are hundreds of collegiate teams feeding players into only 32 NFL franchises. Even so, unless you play for a “major” college team the odds of obtaining an NFL position are very small.

“Texas A&M has the most delusional fans on earth.”
Truer words were never spoken. They hated Mike Leech’s guts because he called it a “fake military school.” (The “M” does not stand for “Military.”)

I know that!
However are colleges & universities educational institutions with sports teams attached or sport institutions that have something to do with education attached?

Has the current coach been fired?

Sumlin has made monumental mistakes while “learning” SEC college football, all on A&M’s dime. The list is long.

He will take that experience and do well at his next gig. However, he could make it awkward for A&M if he wins out and ends up with a 9 win season.

That said, Sumlin is viewed as someone who sees himself immune and has acted accordingly, to include his agent crapping the bed during contract negotiations. This caused incurable resentment with billionare regents.

The school may not have the football resume as the usual Top 10 schools, but they were the most profitable school in sports last year and are one of the wealthiest schools in the nation, with the best facilities around. They can afford pretty much anyone they want.

That said, a Fisher hire would likely not be an upgrade.

Sherman built a good team. He was fired a year too early and the team was handed to Sumlin who did nothing with it. He was also handed a good U of Houston team.

Openings at Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Texas A&M and possibly Auburn. And huge buy outs at all but Florida and Mississippi.

Why would Meter leave Ohio State?

Mechanical. Speaking of Leech, I’d love to see him go to Arkansas but I’d bet he goes to Nebraska.

Um, like when TAMU beat Alabama a few years back? UT Austin isn’t going so hot, either. College teams are always changing since athletes graduate ( they hope) and new students come in.

Gig ‘em!

"Why would Meter leave Ohio State?"

Irrational alumni and fan expectations. Throw in family desires and boredom. I am not a fan of Meyer due to his corporate style of football coaching and recruiting with its heavy emphasis on being a NFL factory. That said, Meyer will only leave when he is ready.

Last year’s debacle against Clemson followed by at least 2 losses this year. Not to mention he’s in his 60s.
