My husband remembers the schools being closed in his PA hometown, the Monday after Thanksgiving :-)

When he was very young and the family of modest means, they really counted on the deer they were allowed to take.

Last i heard it was 600,000 in my home state :o) on opening day. That’s a pretty big army right there.

I don't think there is a single school in northern Michigan that conducts classes on opening day. When I was still in high school down in Lansing about half of the male students were missing and I was always one of them.
