They made the historic announcement earlier this year that the new Doctor Who will be a woman for the first time, played by Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker. And now - just over a month until she will make her first appearance in this year's Christmas Special - the BBC have unveiled a teaser image of the new Time Lord strutting out of the famous TARDIS. The image shows Jodie stepping across a meadow of flowers, the time machine in the backdrop, with the sun rising slowly from the hills in the background.

She is a nice looking woman.
Nanoo nanoo!
16th July....I swear.
If I hadn’t been watching The Doctor since the early 1970’s I wouldn’t put up with these 20 month vacations.
SO much time off between new Who.
She may be a Time Lord, but she may still always be running late. Most women seem to.
Folks should read the comments at the DM’s link. The Beeb’s stepped in it.
Been watching since the late 70s, but I won’t watch this.
There can’t be one bastion of masculinity left standing for these people. Not one.
Sheldon replied "you've already got Dr. Who and the Ghostbusters, leave us something."
I’m a fan of the actress, having watched her in multiple programs where she was wonderful. I’m thrilled that showrunner Moffet has left, so I’ll give this season a chance.
Having said that, I hate her Mork outfit, earrings and I see the cast surrounding her as PC racial box-checking.
They sure did.
The show hit a high point at the 50th anniversary. Brought back Baker for a cameo, shot a *fantastic* mini-episode with Paul McGann. Matt Smith had some real tug-at-your-heart episodes.
And then it all slumped down again. Capaldi could have been great but they gave him lousy stories to work with. They did absolutely nothing with the “Curator” idea, never did any other multi-Doctor episodes, and filled the show with completely intolerable lesbianism.
Now this. The Curse of the Fatal Death has become the real show.
That’s ok...I went decades without watching it after the early 80s, I’ll just go right on back to that. :)
Yeah, everything now has a ghey dude or a transexual penguin...
Maybe the Doc is a dyke? It’ll be something for sure because she’s white.
Not exactly looking glam in my opinion.
We're done. Over. Dr. Who is a man, liberals, or we are gone.
I lost my keyboard with
“bet she keeps changing the batteries on her ‘sonic screwdriver’”
Her companion Bill certainly is.
Bill’s done...left for Star Trek. Won’t go into how she left the show, but it was great. :)
I’ll give the new person a chance.
Ditto. If Moffat was in charge of the new season, I'd already write it off, but the actress seems decent and there will be new people at the helm, so I'm willing to give it a shot.
That being said, my gut feeling is the new Doctor Who is going to suck big time.
We'll see.
