Heres hoping Rick Grimes has a good retirement plan. During a conference call with Wall Street analysts on Thursday, AMC CEO Josh Sapan hinted that the The Walking Dead could stay on the air for years if not decades. The use of the word franchise, we dont take lightly, the exec said, per our sister site Deadline. Its not a sloppy or casual word. Weve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise. (UPDATE: An AMC insider stresses that Sapan was referring to the franchise as a whole and not specifically the mothership series.)
Despite experiencing some ratings erosion of late, The Walking Dead remains a force to reckon with in its current eighth season. The drama returned last month to 11.4 million total viewers and a 5.0 demo rating, down dramatically (by 33 and 40 percent) from Season 7s record-setting premiere but on par with its April finale (and good enough to retain its title as TVs top scripted series).
Must be what all that Democrat “walking around money” is for.
If they keep writing the tripe as shown last season, they can count me out as a fan.
Fear the Walking Dead just saturated the franchise.
I bailed on this show after the second season.
Its still on?!
I wouldn't be surprised if they were talking like that about House of Cards just a few weeks back.
I quit watching after season 6.
During the latest Walking Dead marathon, I did watch the 2 seasons I had never seen(Season 1 and 2).
Fear the Walking Dead was/is pathetic. The main show is stumbling along. They better focus on saving what theyve got before thinking they have the next Dr. Who.
Does The Walking Dead have the most gay characters of any mainstream show? Tara, Jesus, that one gay guy and his gutshot boyfriend, Taras various dead girlfriends. You watch this show and begin to think gays are at least 40% of the population.
Not if the ratings keep going like this. I haven’t even watched this season yet. They’re following the comics too closely, it no longer feels like a different story, it’s now just the same story with actors.
I didn’t know jesus was gay on the show, thought he was gonna be maggies new pie. Daryl is still a mystery.
First 4 seasons were great. Bailed after that.
The number of plots and scenarios are limited and this series already seems exhausted.
It may play for another season or two, but it is becoming the same-ole each season.
Wouldn’t all of the zombies have rotted away after 10-20 yrs
whoa...do Zombies know they are gay ? do they only eat ...oh nevermind.
They go & ambush Negan but Negan still escapes & this crap is just neverending repetitive garbage
Ghosts>Frankenstein>Vampires>Aliens>Zombies...
As with the other fictional fears zombies will play-out when something new is introduced and takes hold.
It died and hasn’t been buried. Yes, an immortal zombie show but don’t expect everyone else to be zombies and follow the dreck.
Great beginning, stinks now. Let it die.
You didn’t get the memo that says your chances of surviving a zombie apocalypse increases if your LGBT? Who would have thunk that gays had better survival skills than any of our highly trained Special Forces warriors!
AMC used to be a good movie channel. Not anymore. It’s Walking Dead, night & day. For those of us not afraid of the boogie man it is boring as Hell. Trash TV.
AMC was toe-to-toe with TCM back in the ninties. They had classic movies, commercial-free, uncut in their original aspect ratio. Then, they added commercials. Then, they introduced more modern films. Then, they began to cut for time and content and present movies in pan and scan. Theyve been hit or miss with their original TV shows, but I have no interest in watching a chopped-up movie on there.
