I have given up completely on the NFL, but as a Clemson alum and fan, this news saddens me to no end. When we met him randomly at a hole in the wall diner in Clearwater, FL, he couldn’t have been nicer, posing for pictures with my husband and young son.
In high school wrestling my knee was completely dislocated, i.e. there was a pop like a maple branch being snapped and the bottom half of my leg was sticking out perpendicular to the top. If anything similar occurred to Watson then “horrific” might apply. My surgery, by the way, has held up for almost fifty years. But it was the definite end, except for Tae Kwon Do and pick up basketball, of my contact sports career.
Bad things happen to some nobody every day.
