DirecTV/Vanity

Posted on 11/01/2017 8:59:04 AM PDT by Allen In Texas Hill Country

I've had DirecTV since it first came out. Had to put up and align my own dishes in the early days. Until a year or so ago I recorded all TV programming that I wanted to watch on my computer. Played stuff back skipping commercials.

My computer gave up the ghost and since my tech (really tech) days are behind me I couldn't get all the gear to function again even after the computer was finally fixed so I had DirecTVs whole home DVR system installed. While its very expensive it came pretty close to what I had before.

With one major exception,,,,,,,,, when the LIST button is used to see the list of recorded programs, programs with like names are put together under a folder. You can expand the folder but that means you really cannot see a list in time/date order. I called ATT/DirecTV and get no understanding at all.

Are there any DirecTV gurus and/or tech connections that understand my complaint? Are/is there an option to turn off this 'folder' thing which which prevents seeing all programs listed in time/date order????

Back in those days (actually a few years after) HDTV came out. I had to have one of the first HDTVs and it cost so much I'm too embarrassed to say how much.

Break from politics. DirecTV anyone?

get rid of it completely.

There is so much free content on the internet

And really cool and interesting stuff to LEARN especially.

I learned how to do my concrete, build an addition, install a septic system (saving $10,000) how to fix a headlight and a motorcycle.

I spent an entire evening watching GLASS BLOWING videos last week (again) - they are mesmerizing.

Get an Amazon Fire then get the direct TV App.....if you have ATT wireless they’ll charge you less than $15/mo with no contract...then you can get all the “cable” stations you want and not have to worry about storm fade-out outages...

When you expand the program it should be in the order the programs aired with most recent being first.

Also go to manage recordings, series options, and you can select to record 1st run, but thus isn’t always accurate.

If you select a program from the guide you can press record, and if it’s a series press record again and it wi record the series and gives you the series recording options described above.

Do you get local programming through Direct, if so it will record, if you get them through an antenna, then no. You would have to get a converter box from Direct.

I live in East Texas in a town of about 3000. Several cable companies have tried and failed here and the ones that gave it a try had pathetic speeds like 1.5 mbs. I have ATT DSL running 5mbs out of 6 I'm paying for. I too have had DTV since it started and cringe at the price it has gotten to. I'm ready to cut the cord but the speeds I get here for DSL are pathetic. it spends most of it's time buffering. I couldn't even watch the Astro's on my PC. These people calling for "cutting the cord" get 26mbs and have no problems.

Also, the content companies beg people to watch on their phones, tablets, PC's, ect, yet there is no bandwidth for even keeping business owners in data heaven. ATT robbed my bandwidth and sent it to Beaumont a few years ago and cut my town back to 3mbs tops. I noticed and complained until they gave me back my 6mbs I'm paying for. That was years ago and there is nothing getting better. It would be a good project for Trump to build this "infrastructure" to get the rest of the country a decent data speed. ATT shows no desire to improve their network.

It allows one to change the order from oldest first in list to oldest last in list. Never have understood what Open/close all does???? Anybody use Open/Close option???

I have no problems recording. Its just that I want to see the list of recorded programs with ‘no folders’. List each program individually. Don’t bunch together programs with like names.

I recently called to cancel DirecTV, and the package and price that I was quickly offered to stay was so attractive I couldn't pass it up.

I had to conclude that they are getting desperate to keep their customer base.

I had to dump Directv, because of THEIR equipment changes.
I went to DISH and got what I wanted for a cheaper cost.
I haven't regretted it at all.

I’m a 1/2 mile from the nearest Spectrum drop and stuck with Centurylinks 1.5mbs DSL. I got it when I first moved in and dropped it soon because it was closer to 400kbs. I now get a wireless provider but limited to 3mbs. Netflix pops right on and 99% no buffering. Hulu is,a little slower to load and sensitive to speed drops that will cancel your viewing.

We did that. I hate TV anyway.

NOW my problem is COX is limiting the data and charging for overages. Anyone else seeing this in their area? It just started in October. They gave two months "grace period" and now if you go over they charge. I think it's is one TB. Very easy to do with a family streaming everything.
