Apple releases macOS High Sierra 10.13.1

“Shortly after releases of the rest of the Apple-supplied operating systems, the company has also issued macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 with support for the new emoji, and other fixes,” Mike Wuerthele reports for AppleInsider.

“The release notes for the update are sparse, with the company calling out only the 70 new emoji, a Bluetooth bug involving Apple Pay, reliability improvements to Microsoft Exchange message syncronization, and a Spotlight input problem,” Wuerthele reports. “Apple does note in a separate security content page that the assorted KRACK wi-fi vulnerabilities have been patched.”

Wuerthele reports, “Apple has also updated it’s developer beta test version of High Sierra 10.13.2.”

Apple releases watchOS 4.1

Apple today released watchOS 4.1 which gives Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) users the ability to stream Apple Music and an iCloud Music Library.

watchOS 4.1 also includes a redesigned Music app, and a new Radio app for streaming Beats 1 and other Apple Music radio stations. Beats 1 streaming is available for free, while Apple Music radio stations require a subscription to the service.

Included in watchOS 4.1:

– Stream music on Apple Watch Series 3 with Apple Music or iCloud Music Library
– Listen to live radio on Beats 1, custom stations, and expert-curated stations with the new Radio app on Apple Watch Series 3
– Use Siri to find, discover, and play songs, playlists, or albums

– Restores Mandarin as the default dictation language for China

To update your Apple Watch

1. Keep your Apple Watch on its charger until the update completes.
2. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, then tap the My Watch tab.
3. Tap General > Software Update.
4. Download the update. If asked for your iPhone passcode or Apple Watch passcode, enter it.
5. Wait for the progress wheel to appear on your Apple Watch. It could take from several minutes to an hour for the update to complete.

Leave your Apple Watch on its charger while the update completes. Don’t restart your iPhone or Apple Watch, and don’t quit the Apple Watch app. When the update completes, your Apple Watch will restart on its own.

Apple releases tvOS 11.1

“Apple today released tvOS 11.1, the first major update for the tvOS 11 operating system designed for fourth and fifth-generation Apple TV models,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors.

“tvOS 11.1 can be downloaded over the air through the Settings app on the Apple TV by going to System –> Software Update,” Clover reports. “Apple TV owners who have automatic software updates turned on will be upgraded to tvOS 11.1 automatically.”

“tvOS 11.1 focuses primarily on bug fixes and performance improvements rather than outward-facing design changes, and no significant features were discovered over the course of the beta testing period,” Clover reports. “The update does introduce a fix for a major vulnerability in the WPA2 Wi-Fi standard that protects many modern Wi-Fi networks.”

MacDailyNews Note: Even if you have auto updates enables, you can force the download via Settings > System > Software Update which we’re currently doing with all of our 4th gen. Apple TV and Apple TV 4K units.

This is a good reminder that I need to check for an anti-KRACK update for my Ubiquiti WAP. Looking, it appears they’ve released updates.

Thank goodness we finally got those! /sarc

Unfortunately, iOS 11.1 still causes apps to crash all the time and kills the battery like it's predecessors. See your Settings:Privacy:Analytics:Analytics Data for a list of all your crash logs. The only way to remove them is to do a Sync from iTunes. The crash logs will be moved to your computer at ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/ where you delete them, or scrutinize them.

Just what I’ve been waiting for - new emojis.

Better get that order in for an iMac Pro.

Will macOS 10.13.1 run on my SE30?

The site is MacDailyNews. What else would they be reporting on? At least the site is truthfully labeled, unlike CNN. If CNN were truthfully labeled, it’d be called “HateTrumpNetwork”.

Oh. Well.

Still, morning news shows are reporting on Apple like it’s news.

Today the stock came off its new all-time high, just a bit. Earnings will be out Thursday evening, and they'll probably be at or near the high end of guidance, as usual. Which of course means, Apple's doomed. ;'^)

Thanks and updated everything except the watch since I don’t care to own one.

I noticed everything is faster.

Looks like profit taking to me. . . lots of profits to be taken right now. About 5% in just a few days.

Yes, and it’s also the usual pattern at earnings time for AAPL.

I have been in the Beta program for iOS and MacOS High Sierra for quite some time. iOS has been relatively problem-free. MacOS High Sierra has been an issue. My MacBook Pro has been getting quite sluggish with oddball system processes loading up and hogging resources (and this with 16GB of RAM and a 2TB HD).

Now - today, I see a notice in Software Update - for macOS High Sierra Public Beta 1... say what? I’ve been on the High Sierra Beta track for months... most recent update wasn’t all that long ago - and was like Beta 5 (I think? - it’s Version 10.13.1 Beta (17B46a).

Now - it wouldn’t be terribly unusual to get notice of a ._ update beta within a day of a general release of a primary update... But that isn’t what Software Update seems to be showing, and no details are provided to indicate a point update... strange. I’m not sure I should click the update button!

Yes, and it’s also the usual pattern at earnings time for AAPL.

It gained it all back and then some, closed at $169.04. Market Cap is now $862.02 Billion. If AAPL hits ~$196.10, the market cap will be $1 Trillion. That's only a 16% gain. Not undoable.
