Please excuse if this is posted incorrectly, it's my first "vanity". Setting aside all the scary fake news and real terrorism, what scary stories - personal or in the news would y'all care to pass along around the FR campefire? I'll start with the true story of Elisa Lam in the next post.

Well, since we're sharing thoughts and memories, I would like to say that there never was anything about this holiday that I liked.

I have been both rich and poor, and remember living in awful neighborhoods where the local "youts" banged on the door at all hours.

As a boy I remember feeling sorry for the other kids, like me, whose parents worked so hard they couldn't help their kids come up with the ingenious costumes that won all the prizes.

I remember the sick smell of a cheap dime store spider man mask, the kind that cracks, the elastic breaks... I remember reallzing, as a parent, that it was OK not to like a holiday with negative, if any, spiritual significance.

I remember realizing, as a Jew, that there was something wrong with Halloween, and I didn't have to dwell on it... It was enough just to know. Sure, I put up with it, "for the kids." But it's awful. FRiends, I love November First.

I dreamed that I walked through an Ivy League university along with my wife dressed like this ... a mighty wind blew through the trees ... snowflakes melted ... people called for Play Doh, Crayons and comfort dogs ... the faculty needed to be revived ... woke up with a smile that took two days to wipe off my face!

Where does just a face with paintings fit in the rankings?

Also, with the wee little ones, up to about 5 years, I’d give them a pass just on account of age - especially if they’re sweet. But if any kid is rotten, they get a brick in their bag.
