EXCLUSIVE: Filming on the upcoming sixth and final season of Netflixs Washington D.C.-set drama House of Cards has been suspended indefinitely. Cast and crew of the MRC-produced series were told of the shutdown this morning.
MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew, the two companies said in a joint statement to Deadline.
The news comes less than 24 hours after Netflix announced that House of Cards will end with its upcoming sixth season as allegations of unwanted sexual advances in 1986 by HoC star Kevin Spacey against then-14-year-old Anthony Rapp had emerged.
The Emmy-nominated House of Cards had been in production in Baltimore on its sixth season. Executives from Netflix and MRC arrived in the city Monday to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported following the allegations against Spacey, who had not been scheduled to be on set yesterday.
Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last nights news concerning Kevin Spacey, the companies said in a joint statement Monday.
Season 6 of House of Cards had been expected to consist of 13 episodes and debut in mid-2018 on Netflix. It is unclear yet how the stop of production would impact that.
Less than two weeks ago, HoC had to deal with a mass shooting that took place a mile from its Baltimore set. It ended up not affecting production.
In what has been a career-defining and critically praised role, Spacey plays the manipulative and murderous now ex-President Francis Underwood in the Netflix series. Season 5 of the show ended with Robin Wrights Claire Underwood now in the Oval Office as Americas first female POTUS as Spaceys Underwood resigned in disgrace.
Having helped launch Netflixs original programming explosion in 2013, the David Fincher-produced House of Cards was created by Beau Willimon based on the 1990 BBC series from Michael Dobbs novel. With the series coming to an end, Netflix and MRC had been exploring potential spinoffs.
I feel sorry for the honest people who lose their jobs when someone like Spacey or Weinsteim did something.
They should do one final episode, drag him out in chains to the public square and executing him. As an example.
Can’t they just add another letter to LBGTQ, like P for Pervert or Predator and make it all better and acceptable? It’s always worked in the past...
The “P” is silent.
Especially, if there are any 14ish y/o boys.
Darn! And they were going to try to eke out another several million dollars in profit, and still come out looking self-righteous about the whole thing, before having to quit.
Oh, I loathe Jim McGreevey. I’d read his father was a former Marine, so I assumed he had been in the dark about his son’s proclivities.
This may be the tip of the accusations iceberg against Spacey; Netflix going the “better safe than sorry” route, in case additional alleged victims emerge.
If this hadn’t happened so close to Harvey’s little hiccup, this could have been NAMBLA’s big moment. Timing is still everything.
There was an amazing scene to open the season where his motorcade drives to the cemetery and he gets out and pisses on his fathers grave. I figured there was some reality tv behind that move.

Read yesterday that Spacey’s real father used to rape his boys.
So yeah. That’ll mess anyone up for life.
“Im SHOCKED that liberals have actually found a perversion or evil too far for them.”
The left is only shocked that they got caught.
I’m sure you’re right that more will come out about Spacey. My point was that the growing acceptance of condemning people without a trial is going to come back to bite some of these celebrities. For example, I think Rosie O’Donnell should keep her mouth shut. She has enough trouble with as it is with her estranged daughter whom she has characterized as vengeful. Here O’Donnell is, tweeting about how Spacey deserves to be brought down on the basis of one incident Spacey says he has no memory of. How is O’Donnell going to feel if her daughter gives another interview and starts accusing HER of abuse?
Yeah, I got messed up real good too by family members. But I never tried to rape a teenager. Some faggot tried something similar when *I* was about 14 but I escaped because he was near passing out drunk.
Of course, conviction-by-accusation is the new normal, and it is totally un-American. And you are very right, this witch hunt mentality will snare a lot of at least semi-innocent people. When you start pointing fingers, you gotta be ready for them to be pointed back at you.
But I do think it is amusing that Hollywood, which regularly indulges in character assassination and ad hominem attacks on conservatives, is now conducting a circular firing squad among its own ranks.
