Florida and coach Jim McElwain have agreed to part ways a day after a third consecutive loss and nearly a week after he said his players and their families had received death threats. Athletic director Scott Stricklin made the announcement Sunday and named defensive coordinator Randy Shannon the team's interim coach for the final four games.

Florida State has Syracuse, Clemson (and Delaware) before the big UF match up on the 25th. They’re not looking too good either.

Had to laugh that Randy Shannon got the interim nod at Gville.

Is Richmond Flowers still alive?

LOL, maybe one day Randy will coach at FSU to complete the Trifecta.

Don’t think so. Cancer I think. If Coach Cliche is a football coach, l can fly the space shuttle.

Speculation that UCF’s Scott Frost is the First Choice.

Then Dan Mullen.

And if all else fails, coax Bobby Stoops out of retirement.

He’ll do something dumb, get fired from UF and picked up by FSU after they lose to Syracuse and Clemson. Just in time for the Gators game.

Florida (state of, not the school) football has gotten too incestuous. I remember Jimmy Johnson sending his assistants to “help” high school coaches with their programs. These guys have all known each other for years. And it shows, unfortunately.

I haven’t been following their coaches because when I lived in Gainesville, Spurrier was their god and it wasn’t really necessary. However, I read in the local St Augustine press that UF was going to have a hard time because some of their better players had been involved in a credit card theft followed by felonious fraudulent use of said credit card. So the coach was going to be starting the season with a serious handicap, which he said in the article (what else was he going to say) would be something they could deal with.

Is this counted in at all? I’m not a big football fan, but I was amazed by the blowout yesterday. I just live here and I’m simply asking a question as a totally ignorant person.

I frankly was never thrilled with him.

His defenders point to the fact UF won the last two SEC East Titles (only to be blown out by Bama in the SECCG). But the fact is, the SEC East was garbage.

His first year started strong but they faded badly at the end, even struggling to beat FAU in overtime. That’s not good when you’re trying to build credibility.

But the most damning was the fact the UF offensively has been putrid, and that’s specifically what McElwain was hired for.

And he just always seemed to be an odd duck to me. The whole death threat thing basically was the final straw. The speculation is that McElwain engineered all this to get out of Florida so he could go to Oregon State.

Richmond Flowers. That’s a name from the past. He was a very good receiver as well as a very good hurdler on the track team.

I believe that “Forrest Gump” was to a small degree based on Richmond Flowers. Not that there was all that much in common, certainly not stupid.

Frost would be a great hire. Brohm has been a good coach at his stops. He would not be a bad hire.

I saw Tennessee play UCLA in 1967 to a tie. That Tennessee team was very good. Jack Reynolds was a linebacker on that team. The quarterback was Dewey Warren. UCLA had a very good team that year, as well, and was ranked #1 in the country when it played USC (with O.J. Simpson), losing 21-20 in a hell of a game.

Spurrier and Fulmer had some great battles over the years.

Ooops, the tie was with Oregon State; UCLA defeated Tennessee 20-16 (the tie with OSU was 16-16; I knew there was a 16 in there somewhere in the Tennessee game, and I remember it was a close game, a real nail biter for this UCLA fan).

Sumlin won’t survive at Tex A&M.

Beliema should be fired at Arkansas but the buyout is $15,000,000. Next year it drops to $5,000,000. Deduct next year’s salary and it’s not as bad. Hopefully they’ll go ahead band get rid of him so they can start turning things around. The AD should be fired for giving Beliema the contract.

Yep, the race is on in the SEC to find coaches. UF better not wait to get the guy they want, especially if it’s Frost.

Apparently Frost’s memories of Nebraska weren’t all that great. He might not be as eager to return as people may think.

In all fairness, McElwain never had a QB. The best one he had, got busted with preformance enhancing drugs. The rest got injured and ended up in the QB role to soon. He never had one long enough to develop.

He also had to deal the disaster of Muschamp left.

Additionally,10 starters got busted for credit card fraud a week prior to the first game of the season against Michigan.

The bottom line is, if you don’t win in FL, you are unemployed.
