The death of Young, born in Scotland but a longtime Australian who also led the 1960s group the Easybeats, was announced by record company Albert’s on Monday.

“A consummate songwriter, trailblazing producer, artist, mentor and extraordinary musician, George was above all else a gentleman who was unfailingly modest, charming, intelligent and loyal; a man with a wonderful sense of humour,” it said in a statement. …

AC/DC has been one of my favorite bands since I was 10 years old. Sad news.

R.I.P George. I thought it was Angus. Angus Young signed my Dad’s Gibson in 06’ backstage. Met all the brothers. They’re awesome.

Not sure if this was mentioned in the article (I am not clicking a link to the NY Daily News) but George Young was also a member of Flash & The Pan - which I think is one of the more underrated bands of the late 1970s/early 1980s.

I saw an article on Variety that mentioned that.

They were awesome.

This is one of the best driving alone on a deserted, dark highway songs, ever.

I'll call your "Walking In The Rain" and raise you "And The Band Played On (Down Among The Dead Men)".

This band had a lot of great, haunting songs that perfectly defined the late 1970s era for me.

Getting back to "Walking In The Rain", I was just a teenage in the summer of 1979 when that song was in heavy rotation on the local college station. One hot, muggy night, I couldn't get to sleep so I snuck out of my house in the middle of the night just after a thunderstorm and went for a long walk through my urban neighborhood with lightning in the distance. That song was going through my head at the time as I walked the wet, dark streets. And no, I wasn't dressed as a woman by the way!

Young also continued his music studio work as a songwriter, penning hits for various acts such as John Paul Young’s late 1970s song “Love is in the Air."

I had no idea he wrote that.
