Some of the music industrys biggest players are betting that a new sound is ready to catch on. Its called classic rock.
The genre is being reinvented by young musicians, some of whom are barely out of high school, who are channeling bands their mothers and fathers grew up with.
Greta Van Fleet is a rarity in todays music business: An old-fashioned rock band that could, some music executives say, break into the pop world.
The Frankenmuth, Mich., group is made up of 21-year-old twins Jake Kiszka, the bands guitarist, and Josh Kiszka, its singer; their brother and bassist Sam Kiszka, 18; and drummer Danny Wagner, 18. Greta Van Fleets debut EP, Black Smoke Rising, which features Joshs Robert Plant-like howl and Jakes guitar hooks, opened at No. 1 on Apples iTunes rock chart. Highway Tune, their single, recently topped Billboards mainstream rock radio chart for five weeks. Despite having just four songs, Greta Van Fleet is selling out clubs like New York Citys Bowery Ballroom.
I’m happy to see the younger ones take an interest in classic rock. It is still my favorite genre.
How long must a Greta Van Fleet set be if there are only four songs? Even if they are ten minutes each, that’s maybe a 45 minute show. Still, good on them! They must have quite the promoter!
I think the writer meant ‘on the charts’..................
4 charted songs.................
Yes, they could have other songs that have not been released as recordings.
I guess you posted as I was writing my previous one. I wonder the same thing.
Oh, that’s completely different. Thanks for pointing that out.
Remember Kingdom Come from ~1988? Zep-esque 1 hit wonder - Get It On
Do a cover of Dazed and Confused and you got another 30-45 minutes
Journalism often raises more questions than it answers. The WSJ is above average, but they don’t have the editorial quality they used to.
Inna-gadda-da-vida is good or an hour, at least!.........
I saw a band called Lez Zeppelin once.
All chicks.
It really takes a chick to hit Plant’s high notes.
They were awesome, and not actual lesbians, apparently.
I bought the T-shirt.
Those shoes don’t work without a purple polyester leisure suit involved. And a mullet, or a Tony Manero haircut.
While I never wore a leisure suit, I did look like Tony Manero................
“just learned how PF got their name.. eeew..”
I have read several places they took the names of two US blues performers to make the name.
That is the accepted version of the story.

Do you have a link to something different?
Yes - My brain immediately went there.
Now I have Get It On stuck in my head.
Thanks, buddy.
Remember a band called The Ordinaires?
They had a 1 hit with a string-based Kashmir.
And it really wasn’t a “hit”.
Oh yeah I remember Kingdom Come. I saw them open up the Monsters of Rock show in ‘88 at Arrowhead in KC. Kingdom Come, Mettalica, Dokken, The Scorpions and Van Halen. Now that was a rock show. Not to mention the girl almost right next to me who stripped down buck assed naked and stood on her boyfriends shoulders for much of Van Halen’s set. Dang, I miss the ‘80s.
“Those shoes dont work without a purple polyester leisure suit involved. And a mullet, or a Tony Manero haircut.”
I agree with the purple leisure suit but you are forgetting the big fur coat *draped* over the shoulders, not worn, draped.
The hair needs to be a big afro topped off with an oversized purple velour “Pimp Daddy” hat.
And don’t forget the bling.
A gold or diamond ring on every finger and a big gold neck chain with a peace symbol medallion on it.
A little? That kid has listened to a lot of Robert Plant and he's got the pipes.
