Confirmed: Valkyrie in 'Thor: Ragnarok' Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's First LGBTQ Character

Tessa Thompson is making Marvel Cinematic Universe history.

The 34-year-old actress revealed on Twitter on Saturday that her Thor: Ragnarok character, Valkyrie, is bisexual -- making her the first LGBTQ character in the MCU.

"She's bi. And yes, she cares very little about what men think of her. What a joy to play!" Thompson wrote.

"Val is Bi in the comics & I was faithful to that in her depiction," she added in another tweet. "But her sexuality isn't explicitly addressed in Thor: Ragnarok."

If you use the 'Marvel Universe', you'll definitely flunk your mythology exam.

Given that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Thor is a alien rather than a god, that's kind of a given.

:-)

I know a guy who is bisexual. He wants it, he buys it!

So what? Another boring CGI movie made as a subliminally absorbing political agenda vehicle. I’d rather watch the old black and white mystery re-runs on TV and You Tube from the 30’s and 40’s, that required real acting.

I guess Deadpool somehow isn't in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...?

It's not. It's in the Marvel "X-Men" Universe, which is a separate continuity.

All the girls I knew in college were bisexual, I’d ask them, “Sex?” and they said, “Bye!”

This character was always Bi, so not really a story. And really, she’s supposed to be the amazon type. Won’t stop me from watching the film. I leave being triggered to the snowflake liberals.

Ever see any interviews with them???

You can tell they have a very comfortable chemistry together.

“Look at Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” remake. There was a lot of talk of the “gay moment” in it,”

That “gay moment” was paltry at best, and demeaning to gays at worst. 2 seconds, easily missed amid the plethora of paired characters doing the same thing (ballroom dancing), fulfilling every sappy stereotype if you actually noticed it.
If _that_ caused one angst, burning _Loony_Tunes_ would be scheduled. Bugs Bunny was flaming obvious in comparison.
The B&B remake succeeded because it was an excellently done movie.

Likewise, I expect any hint of “bi” in this one would be a fleeting hint on par with other classics & standards of the genre that nobody objects to.

I don't know, ‘You should see the Professor’ ‘Which one, Mcavoy or Stewart?’ — kinda breaks the whole x-men universe right there, doesn't it? :)

I supposed that I would care if I were planning to watch the film. I didn’t know that it was in development.

I don't care for the movie versions of Thor. He comes off like just a dumb jock. I really liked the old comics when Thor and the other Norse gods were real gods and spoke pseudo-Shakespearean dialog. I'll be skipping this new flick.

I had boxes of Marvel and other comics as a kid.

I can’t remember one gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender character in any of them.. From Richie Rich to Archie, The Hulk to SuperGirl, nada, zip, zilch..

Odin would not be pleased.

I have a much bigger problem w/ making Asgardians look like a freaking bennetton ad than I do w/ a “bisexual in my mind only” Valkyrie. I think Idris Elba as Heimdall is an embarrassment. He should be ashamed to play the part really. One of the most egregious blackwash castings ever.
