Mother 'boiled to death by caramel' in freak sweet factory accident

A Russian woman has died after molten caramel filled a huge tank she had been cleaning in a tragic freak accident.

Natalie Nemets, 36, is believed to have been "boiled alive" in the accident, which happened at Slavyanka factory in Stary Oskol, in the Belgorod area of Russia.

The mother-of-one was instantly submerged when the hot caramel started gushing into the mixer, with only her legs sticking out.

One onlooker said: "She did not cry, no other noise was heard. She was cleaning the mixer when the caramel suddenly began to flow into the bowl.

"The caramel was removed from the giant bowl and only then her body was taken out.

"Besides the fact that it was boiling caramel, in the bowl there are moving blades that constantly mix the caramel."

According to newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, her colleagues noticed she was not where she was supposed to be in the factory.

Reports say investigators are currently considering two possibilities: either Natalia fainted and fell as a result of the room's high air temperature or she stumbled.

Local reports claim the factory has tried to cover up the tragedy by threatening workers' jobs for speaking out. It is allegedly the third death at the factory this year.

Natalia is survived by her son, Ivan, ten.

I go to Reddit at least daily and look at the r/OSHA subreddit.

A lot of stupidity out there, here is a recent gem:

Having lived in the Boston area and knowing that neighborhood from the late 70's forward, it is hard to imaging what that was like.

My first job out of HS was at a plant in Philly, built in the 1800's, that produced, processed and packaged vegetable oil. That place was a disaster in the making and not unsurprisingly, remains a scraped, covered in concrete, fenced with barbed wire, empty full city block to this day. (...in a neighborhood where apartments/townhomes or some sort of building would have replaced it, if not for what is unspoken in the ground...)

I knew a woman whose daughter drowned in a vat of salsa in a factory.
