Justin Timberlake has been confirmed as the headliner for this year's Super Bowl LII halftime show but not everyone is firing the confetti cannons.
Folks haven't quite forgotten Timberlake's role in the supposed "wardrobe malfunction" at the 2004 halftime show with Janet Jackson, and how her career took a major hit while his star continued to rise.
The incident, referred to often as "Nipplegate," occured when Timberlake exposed Jackson's breast, which was adorned with a nipple pastie, during the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXVII. The planned nature of the performance was broadly debated, though Jackson's team said it was "unintentional."
Jackson was blacklisted by the NFL, and she and CBS were heavily fined by the FCC (later voided). Timberlake got off pretty unscathed, offering a short apology while accepting a Grammy Award at the very same ceremony Jackson had also been banned from.
Now, with Timberlake set to take the stage at the Super Bowl next year, many commentators have called for a Jackson cameo or a total change in billing.

OakLADGSW @legendary_hoe Why is Justin Timberlake being invited to perform again when Janet Jackson is banned for life for something that was entirely his fault🙄 8:35 PM - Oct 22, 2017
A Definite Maybe @Pic_Nikk If Janet Jackson cant ever perform at the Super Bowl again then Justin Timberlake shouldnt be able to either 🤷🏾♀️ 8:13 PM - Oct 22, 2017
Crystal Methanny @RafiDAngelo Unless Justin Timberlake starts his set by introducing Janet Jackson with an apology and then continues watching quietly while she does 12 minutes of her catalog solo, the Super Bowl can keep this halftime show. 8:39 PM - Oct 22, 2017 23 23 Replies 580 580 Retweets 998 998 likes
The Super Bowl is set for Feb. 4, 2018 in Minneapolis. Yeah, we don't think this chat is over yet.
Janet Jackson has fans?!
~~~~~~~~~
All four of them are outraged and took to Twitter, to vent.
She dumped her Moslem husband in England. Too restrictive.
I hope she dumped Islam, too. It’s the reason for the major restrictions.
There are quite a number of those “aging touring bands” out there, many with quite a few younger players “filling in” for those departed (in one way or another), and some of whom can still put out quite good performances, but, their attraction to, say, 30 -50 year olds may be limited.
(I say 30-50 year old fans because I’d think that is the #1 demographic for NFL fans - maybe I’m wrong about that?)
I “dunno”, it might be interesting to see who 30-50 year old football fans would “nominate” to play the Super Bowl.
Why we're protesting during the US national anthem at American Football games
And they continued the slur on law enforcement.
Seems to me if the NFL wants LE protecting its damn games, the least the NFL could do is stop slandering and libeling the profession of the people protecting them
Swelled...fat? No, that is her “training jihadi vest”. It’s the bomb!
What a disgrace. :(
