A Texas town is offering residents relief grants for damage sustained by Hurricane Harvey but applicants must first promise not to boycott Israel.
ACLU officials said the city is apparently enforcing a law passed in May by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott that bans all state agencies from contracting with companies that boycott Israel.
We are actively seeking alternative places to live because we have been told it will be at least six months before the place is to where we can get back into the house, resident Georgeanna Santarelli told the Galveston County Daily News. The mold is bad it looks like chalk. The animals are getting sick and we feel bad, getting headaches and puking

The law simply requires that businesses don’t have discrimi atory practices, yes?
Sounds just like the laws which require businesses have gender blind emoyment.
This speech conditional aid will never fly in the USSC.
Shoe could easily be on the other foot.
No aid unless you agree to support Planned Parenthood wouldn’t work with us.
Even good politicians (like Abbott) pass bad laws. Perhaps they were well intentioned, but later (like now) the unforeseen consequences come out.
I also distrust the ACLU. They are lying until proven innocent.
Maybe there is truth to this story. Maybe not. I went looking for another POV. Didn’t find one.
But for now - I’ll hold off judgment for or against what this article claims.
See, when the frackin’ Democrats put conditions on contracts, it’s hunky dory. When a governor tries to protect Israel, it’s Katy bar the door. These people sicken me.
Banning state agencies from contracting with companies that boycott Israel is NOT a First Amendment issue.
Their speech is not being criminalized or constrained.
No one ever promised that free speech wouldn’t have consequences.

Every single law against boycotting Israel is un-Constitutional and anti-American.
American citizens have have an absolute right to boycott any foreign country as we see fit. A legal right and a moral right.
Of course. Making boycott illegal is the same as forcing someone to do business they don’t want to do. That only works for Obamacare. As for boycotting Israel, any company that did such a thing would cease getting my business instantly. Boycotts are funny that way.
It’s normal law-speak. What it does is make public which companies boycott Israel so that the state can either stop or refrain from doing business with them. As a bonus, by making the list public, Texans can be aware of which companies are anti-Israel and consume accordingly.
