Looking for streaming solution. Currently paying for DirecTV, 3 TVs and all premium packages except sports.
I am thinking of going Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. MY wife lives on HGTV and Lifetime. She can do without the rest.
My read into download HGTV to computer or TVI have to register my provider (cable, satellite) which means I have to stay with direct or cox.
I want to stream and provide my wife with her favorites from those two stations.
Have smartvs and chrome cast hooked to one of them.
Thanx
None of it is that important to us. We are Amazon Prime members and just in the last few months discovered it gives us a LOT of free TV and movies. If it isn’t free, it’s dead to us.
My wife likes HGTV a lot when we visit our relatives, but she’s got too much to do around here around the lines of actually DOING what we watch on those shows to miss it all that much.
We dumped Comcast cable TV the same day DirecTV Now became available. It streams cable channels over the internet. We are still getting well over 100 channels plus HBO for $35 a month.
To begin with we were paying $5 extra for HBO, but the service was so awful for the first 9 months that they were losing customers so they threw in HBO for free for an incentive. It has pretty well been straightened out these days. The channels that were most important to us were FOX, FOX Business, OAN, TCM, TBS, HGTV, Hallmark, History, and a some others which we didn’t have previously but are all included. We separately subscribe to Starz, Netflix, and have Amazon Prime also. We also get good over the air reception for all of the local channels. We had HULU for awhile but didn’t watch it enough to justify it.
We are fixing up an old house to move into while getting our current house ready to sell, so we are able to watch all of our subscribed TV at both houses while paying for the cable channels just once. We use Amazon Fire TV sticks and boxes and DirecTV Now included an Apple TV when we first signed up. We have more television options than we would ever have been able to justify... if still paying for cable TV.
All together we have been paying $40 a month at both locations with all taxes for cable included. $35 a month for the DirecTV Now, about $10 a month for Starz and about $10 month for Netflix. We also a dedicated free Google phone line for our alarm systems at each house, along with a Google phone line for each house which each going to both houses. So we have 3 free Google phone lines coming into each house along with Cable TV and Internet all for approximately $135 a month, dropping to $95 a month when we complete our move.
I tried to look up what there $35 plan includes these days and it looks like only 60 channels and no free hardware. But we did put up with the service being more like a beta test for the first year.
thanx

Life will get much better once your wife stops watching Lifetime. Trust me.
Don’t you like the evil man vs woman vulnerable channel?
Secondly, do you control what your wife watches? Any tips for how to survive that?
Funny story. One time my wife was watching a Lifetime movie, a mystery of sorts, and she asked if I had any idea who the killer was. "It's the doctor." I said definitively.
"The DOCTOR?" she asked, "Why would you think it's HIM?"
I answered, "Because he's the only white male character with any redeeming qualities about him at this point."
Guess who was right?
Lifetime. Keeping bad Canadian actors employed since 1985.
My husband calls it the Scorned Woman network... lol
