US Launching Spy Satellite Early Friday: Watch It Live

The NROL-52 satellite is scheduled to launch atop a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida at 4:03 a.m. EDT (0803 GMT). You can watch it live here at Space.com beginning at 3:43 a.m. EDT (0743 GMT), courtesy of ULA. The mission was originally scheduled to lift off Thursday morning (Oct. 5), but unacceptable wins prevented launch, ULA representatives said.

NASA's advancement in space flight technology astound me./s
In the early 60's we watched Atlas rockets launch Mercury capsules.
We would get out of class and go into the play yard at Sable Elementary in Eua Gallie Florida, now part of Melbourne.
Surely Nasa and the Air Force could have come up with better launch vehicles in 47 yrs.
The money was probably spent on social engineering instead of Aerospace engineering.

In 2015, I was able to get to Cape Canaveral and watch a liftoff of one of the satellites. I had read and seen television of the launches, but the reality of the rocket taking off, the sound of the engines and the trail of smoke was more than I had ever thought.

Moreover, the fundamentals of rocket technology have not changed a lot. It's a great big tank of fuel and a tank of oxidizer with turbo pumps to mix them together at very high speed. Once you get to the point that most of the weight is fuel and payload, not much more you can do.

Sure guidance and control have improved immensely.

I’d also love to see the coordinates for this new satellite so people can follow its orbit on their telescopes or digital cameras from home.

Come to think of it, what are the coordinates for their existing satellites, I wonder.

We all should be able to look at what our 3 Trillion dollars of taxpayer money has garnered us over the years. But... not... even... a photo of the flag planted on the moon?

Last time I drove a Mustang I was pretty impressed, actually. But then I had to remind myself that the weight distrubution (big engine over front wheels, light rear) makes for bad balance and real danger in slippery conditions, and a car that is a no go in ice and snow.

What are the coordinates for this new satellite so we can follow along with its orbit from home with our telescopes or cheap new cameras that can rack focus on the moon?

Actually I don’t know much about current NASA stuff, but you can get some info from http://www.n2yo.com/?s=41332. I would rather doubt that classified military satellites would be listed, but hey, anything is possible.

It's so weird, no one I know can actually rack focus on satellites from home, and just think about how many satellites are now orbiting the earth at least 50,000, so much space junk it's actually dangerous!

Yet can't seem to rack focus on them in the daylight or night time sky.

With 50K satellites up there, I’d settle for a Direct TV or Google earth sat coordinates.

We all should be able to see this stuff from our backyards.

No I don’t know the coordinate for this new satellite, I suspect that information wouldn’t be public, and I doubt I would be able to tell you if I did know. I’m sure you could do a quick search to find out if it is public.

The shuttle video looks to me like it’s probably a duplication process malfunction. At that time, while most video recording was done on tape, not film, and some was even electronic/digital, although that was leading edge and not commercially commonplace. But editing for shows like this or for reproduction was not always done with the best of technology... someone may have even been using projectors screens and video recorders to make dupes and edits. Even f they weren’t physical screens, they could have been using blue screen with chroma. What you are seeing is an editing room reflection. :D
