Diazepam is commonly known as Valium. Anxiety is not the only thing it is used for.

It is also given to people who have seizure disorders because it raises the seizure threshold. It's a great med for that. But like any benzodiazepine, it is highly addictive.

I think it is the pharma name for Valium which is, I think, a downer.

But of use maybe if somebody wanted to control their adrenaline flow.

Benzodiazepines, (Lorazepam, Valium, xanax etc.) and the most addictive substances on the planet.

Not even heroin compares.

50 of the 10mg variety, twice prescribed over 10 years is nothing and not significant in any way.

Valium has been around and in prolonged use since the 1950's or early 60's. I had innumerable patients using it back in the old days. Never had one case where a patient on Valium became violent, much less a mass murderer. This is a factitious attribution.

It’s Valium and not nearly as associated with inducing suicidal or homicidal psychosis as typical anti-depressants that affect serotonergic or catecholamergic systems.

A bigger deal should be made of how many of these deranged killers have a history of use with prescribed mind-altering meds. Could it be they cause a huge disconnect so that the maniacs no longer distinguish fantasy from reality? That they have no sense of accountability?

I get valium every time I have a dentist appointment. I have severe anxiety when I go. I guess I am lucky that I never wanted to kill anyone or wanted more. Same with pain meds. I hate the feeling of being foggy. lol

The drug, marketed as Valium, is part of a class of medication known as anxiolytic and sedative, which are commonly referred to as benzodiazepines

I know people are struggling to understand why this guy committed this atrocity, but I'm pretty sure there are thousands upon thousands of people who have used Valium without resorting to mass murder. This seems about as relevant to the crime as the fact that he breathed air.

Good Lord. Who hasn’t taken a valium at one time or another.

This gives us no insight as the the motive of this killer.

Bracing for the “anyone on diazepam is no longer allowed to own firearms” drama

Its a bit unusual these days that the guy has no on-line presence that we know of at all.

Well it wouldn’t be a mass shooting without anti anxiety meds involved. :-)
