Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock had 19 weapons stashed in his hotel room to carry out his massacre — including a collection of rifles and handguns, according to a report.

Experts said Paddock’s weapon of choice was likely a fully automatic rifle, given witness accounts of the gunfire, according to New York Magazine.

The weapon is especially tough for a civilian to obtain, the mag said.

The experts pointed to the pattern of the “bursts” of gunfire in concluding that Paddock used at least one automatic weapon.

“I hear ONE fully automatic rifle. Shoots 90 rounds x2 30 second reloads,” tweeted US intelligence expert Malcolm Nance.

Paddock could have used a machine gun or military-style assault rifle, both of which would have the range to reach concertgoers from his high-rise hotel room and fire multiple bullets with a single squeeze of the trigger...

Israeli IDF use .22 in crowd control situations, attempting to inflict less than lethal force on rock throwers etc.

Given his height its not much of a matter of how far the bullet needs to travel when it can also fall 32 floors. So all he has to do is shoot straight over the concert parallel to the ground and he will likely hit people as the bullet falls. If he wants to make sure he hits people, he just has to start by aiming at the furthest person and walk it up from there. He is sure to hit someone without worrying too much about the calculation of vectors and gravity.

Why would he continue to sneak in guns which are much more difficult to hide from the Hotel staff, cameras, etc... than rounds for 1 weapon?

Blame Hollywood.

In a lot movies, the shooters carry multiple weapons, then throw them away when it's empty, then pull out another fully-loaded weapon.

Walked over to the C-store next to my office to grab a pop. Cashier was watching news about the shooting and I asked, “What’s wrong with people.”

Without skipping a beat she replies, “We need to ban guns!”, and then continued on wild-eyed about how this would never happen if Nevada made you register your guns and if hotels scanned baggage like airports. I listened in bewilderment until she was done and said bad people would find a way to kill no matter what laws were in place to control guns. She thought for a second, and agreed.

She’s an immigrant from Iraq and parrots whatever CNN feeds.

The ammo might have been only 1 or 2 cans. The riffles he could have put in any kind of luggage, hubby uses a square guitar case.

Isn’t this pretty much the same way the guy was able to take down 5 cops in Dallas? Or Whitman on the UT tower for that matter.

19 guns—there have to be records of who sold them if he indeed bought them.

No, this is America, not North Korea. It's illegal to keep a database of gun purchases. The FBI is required by federal law to destroy all records of NICS background checks within 24 hours - as a safeguard to protect our Constitutional gun rights.

There goes another FReeper, acting like it is illegal to have 19 "weapons" in a hotel room. I have 2 or 3 with me everytime I travel. I know competitive shooters who sometimes share hotel rooms; they may have 20 "weapons" between them. SO WHAT! WE HAVE THE 2nd AMENDMENT and the FIREARM OWNERS' PROTECTION ACT!

I am so sick of supposedly "conservative" FReepers acting like "weapons" are illegal! You people must be from one of the slave states.

It is not a question of “legal”; it is a question as to what purpose, and I’d think any hotel, if aware someone was observed bringing so many weapons into their establishment their security people alone would be a bit curious. I don’t think there are any shooting ranges downtown Las Vegas.

"illegal drum"?

There are dozens of legal drums on the market; why do you think he had an "illegal" one?

Or, is that just typical gun ignorance talking...?

Well two differences. Yes he got to a high place where there aren’t bag checks. But that guy in Dallas had to be a good marksman. This guy didn’t really need to aim. And the Dallas guy had an idea who he was killing. He was not just after the crowd. He wanted specifically cops. I may be wrong but I don’t think this guy cared about country music fans. In fact, I think he would have just shot people on the strip if there were no concert right their.

yes- really...the dude likely had to make numerous trips up and down...he also had a suite but its likely he didn’t let the porters handle his luggage....

the inference was not that he brought it in bare bones but the guy must’ve been making God knows how many trips back and forth with luggage...
