About a year ago, I bought a Linux Mint laptop.

Linux is okay for basics — wordprocessing, email, etc., but it is still lacking in many ways.

For, example, the Linux Firefox will not run all of the extensions/add-ons that the Windows FF will run.

Also, I tried to run WINE. Every Windows program I tried to install/run failed partially or completely.

I am still looking for a way to watch FoxSportsGo, ESPN and NBCSports. Every browser fails. They may load partially but will not connect. I periodically check forums and try some of the suggestions, but so far NADA.

True- BUT it is nearly virus proof- very easy to update (unlike windows 7 which could literally take days and countless hours figuring out why it is so dang slow)- and it’s super fast- especially with an SSD drive :)

Got so sick of combating attempted viruses with windows that that was really the main reason i switched-

You coudl run windows in a virtual box on linux and I believe it’s IE woudl show those for you?

I think you can download a win 10 iso file, run it, and not register it- it will be ‘crippled’ but will still work fine- you’ll just get a logo in lower corner, and you won’t be able to customize some aspects of windows 10- but it will still function fine- unless they have changed all that? I installed a win 10 in a virtual box vm almost a year or so ago and it’s still working in it’s ‘crippled’ mode- some folks early on had said that it would stop working at some point- but so far it hasn’t-

Give it a try- you might get back your sports shows and the best thing is that if you should get a virus in a vm- you can simply power it off without saving when you shut down the vm, and you won’t be infected it’s basically running it in a sandbox environment- you can have hte best of both worlds- but note that vms of course won’t utilize your video card- but you shouldn’t need it for watching online stuff I don’t think-

You might consider a $26 Kodi TV box. Basically it's a cell phone processor running android with an HDMI output to your HDTV. Kodi is open source/free home theater software. There are some pretty good streaming TV add-ons for it like Plex.
