He wanted to mainline porn into the bloodstream of society. He succeeded and built an empire

Then he had to watch as the Internet made ever more hard core porn ubiquitous and cheap. It destroyed his empire. I’d bet that not many millennials of the male persuasion have ever seen a Playboy centerfold

Thanks for the chuckle!

Yeah, he didn’t exactly set the best example for society . . . wait, what am I saying :)

There’s always mixed feelings on something like this but even without the laughing about it, the journalistic part of the magazine was interesting because you would get in-depth articles about topics that almost no other magazine at the time took seriously and they gave national exposure (no pun intended) to writers that really were worth reading.

The words of Jesus are ringing "whoever causes ones of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea" Matt 18:6

Sadly Mr Hughes led a generation of young people into sin and though the world glorifies him, but Jesus does not.

Do I personally condemmed him? No, as every man has his own sin nature embedded within him. However with his money and charm he made it as his life goal to sell it to the world and naturally the world accepted him as their own. Though he didn't light the match of sexual carnality, he used a flamethrower to market & spread it to a generation and many men has been burned by it.

Maybe & hopefully he made his peace with God even at the last minute, as the Lord is very gracious & full of mercy and compassion to those who genuinely seeks forgiveness in him.

Your definition of porn vis-a-vis Playboy was already well into the mainstream long before Playboy came along. There’s no difference between the typical Playboy photo spread and what appeared in paintings by so many collected artists of the previous 500 years.

Playboy wasn’t about the ‘porn’, it was about the lifestyle that we now know to be full of irresponsibility and risk.

A sad thought just came to me: Did Hugh Hefner have any evidence on Bill or Hillary Clinton??

"Many men struggle thanks to Heffner. "

Yes, but few (no longer) envy him.

No matter how much money he had, he was always confirmed trailer trash. His home was nicknamed "herpes hideaway" and he was stone deaf from his viagra use.

Read somewhere that what Hugh Hefner was most proud of in his life is having helped make it socially acceptable to have sex outside of marriage. Well, Hefner did “succed” at that, for sure, unleashing great misery upon our culture and indirectly causing the deaths of millions of unborn babies from abortion. As a Catholic, I believe judgment in the afterlife isn’t a Pass/Fail test. So, I just said a quick prayer for Hugh Hefners soul. Perhaps, after a long stay in Purgatory, Hefner will have a chance to avoid eternal punishment for his evil sins.

Luke 16:19–31:19 19“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21who longed to satisfy his hunger with what fell from the rich man’s table; even the dogs would come and lick his sores. 22The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In Hades, where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. 24He called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in these flames.’ 25But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. 26Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.’ 27He said, ‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house— 28for I have five brothers—that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment.’ 29Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’ 30He said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
