Actor Jesse Williams has claimed that the NFL's pregame national anthem ceremony is a government 'scam' designed to convince 'boys and girls to fly overseas and kill people'.
Williams made his comments while speaking to MSNBC about football players kneeling during the pregame Star Spangled Banner performance to protest race inequality in the United States.
Williams, best known for his role on Grey's Anatomy, said that NFL players started participating in the pregame national anthem in 2009 as a Defense Department military recruitment strategy.

Reinstate the draft. Draft all 18-year-olds for a two year period of service to their country. The only deferments would be for those individuals exhibiting incapacitating mental and/or physical disabilities. Nearly all 18-year-olds would be able to perform some sort of civil or military service.

So athletes were never on the field for the National Anthem before games started anytime before 2009?
