You fellas in the NFL had better all stand with your hands over your hearts next Sunday, or your sport is doomed. It is pretty obvious that you don't believe this, but watch what happens next. You are forcing fans to choose between loyalty to lawless, disrespectful, bigoted black players mostly who feel they can do whatever they want whenever they want and the country governed by rules of law and requirements of patriotic loyalty to survive.
This is almost literally a choice between a collapsing path to severe division and civil war, or unity in honoring our country and flag a de-escalation of conflict. This is the dividing line in our history going forward. Either you are for this country, or, you are against it as it stands. You can NOT have it both ways. You are trying to FORCE us to accept your rebellion and get rid of Trump and all we voted for, or else.
Choose you this day whom you will serve moment for all of us. It actually is a choice between good and evil this time.
Same goes for baseball. Ever see an MLB player hit a triple? Have a look at what he is doing while at 3rd base. Hands on knees sucking air like he needs an oxygen tank. I've even seen some that have broken a sweat by sprinting 270 feet.
these mental midgets ought go see what the rest of the world is like.
It’s already over, you are just behind the curve. The NFL is soon to be a thing of the past. Oh it will still be around but much smaller and less profitable.
Cause they are a minority in the league and are afraid.
There was a book written about them called The Bell Curve.
Kneeling for the National Anthem in London and standing for God Save the Queen was the last straw. Disrespecting our country on foreign soil goes beyond freedom of speech.
Kinda like following Obama’s foot steps doncha think?
The Damage to the NFL has not hardly started and may be generational.
"UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 18 Part I. CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE CHAPTER 33 - EMBLEMS, INSIGNIA, AND NAMES THIS TITLE WAS ENACTED BY ACT JUNE 25, 1948, CH. 645, SEC. 1, 62 STAT. 683 § 700. Desecration of the flag of the United States; penalties (a)(1) Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any flag of the United States shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both. (2) This subsection does not prohibit any conduct consisting of the disposal of a flag when it has become worn or soiled. (b) As used in this section, the term 'flag of the United States' means any flag of the United States, or any part thereof, made of any substance, of any size, in a form that is commonly displayed. (c) Nothing in this section shall be construed as indicating an intent on the part of Congress to deprive any State, territory, possession, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico of jurisdiction over any offense over which it would have jurisdiction in the absence of this section. (d)(1) An appeal may be taken directly to the Supreme Court of the United States from any interlocutory or final judgment, decree, or order issued by a United States district court ruling upon the constitutionality of subsection (a). (2) The Supreme Court shall, if it has not previously ruled on the question, accept jurisdiction over the appeal and advance on the docket and expedite to the greatest extent possible. "
Although there are penalties listed for desecrating The Flag, I couldn't find any penalties for disrespect. Plenty of instruction on how to act, but nothing on whether or not it's a crime if you don't do it. With the free speech of those with lack of respect comes free speech of those who are offended. It starts to feel like your part of a dog chasing it's tail...
Interesting post from a die-hard American football fan. Guessing you dislike soccer because clearly you’ve paid little or no attention. Not sure what you are watching, but not the teams I watch (and have been following) 30+ years.
As for pitch, it wasn’t “borrowed” from cricket. Pitching was the act of removing stumps from a field so the game could be played, and eventually applied to the playing area itself.
As for a soccer player being “blasted” by a 300 lb lineman, no worries. That lineman would never catch the real footballer :)
Yes, the better conditioned athelete is the marathon runner similar to the footballer who VERY OFTEN runs 2/3 or more of that 90 minutes.
All I can think of is you must watch the suckiest American soccer teams. They fall by the wayside compared to European and south of our border teams. Want to watch a good match? Check our Brazil or Mexican national teams. Amazing!!
Sports fans are a special breed and it takes tons to drag them away. Remember the baseball strikes? Fans were back the next week after saying they would never attend another game. This will be a hard nut to crack.
I always admired ole Jimmy. Brigadier General, USAFR.
Those are called "useful idiots." Ben Shapiro calls them "lemmings," that don't know what the arguments are.
The easiest, fastest way for President Trump to kick the NFL, *hard*, is to direct the IRS to change the tax-free status of municipal bonds, which are *supposed* to be used for infrastructure, from being used to subsidize the building of stadiums or as tax incentives to sports teams. Everything that is still legitimate for muni bonds remains tax free. But NOT stadiums or tax breaks.
This does not need to be done retroactively, but means that in the future, the billionaires who own the NFL can still sucker local and state governments to build them stuff and pay them, *BUT BONDHOLDERS WILL HAVE TO PAY INCOME TAXES ON THE INTEREST EARNED FROM THOSE BONDS*.
Which means that such bonds will have to be competitive with commercial bonds. This will cost the billionaires who run the NFL BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
And with this rule change, they will squeal like stuck pigs.
Yes, the term pitch was applied to cricket first, not soccer.
“Since the end of the 17th century, the process of pitching stumps into the ground to set up a game of cricket has been called pitching the stumps. By the late 1800s, people started using pitch as a noun to describe a playing area. By 1900, pitch was used specifically for a football (or soccer) playing area.”
http://www.juliatomiak.com/2015/05/why-is-a-soccer-field-called-a-pitch/
I could find hundreds of other sources to back this up. Cricket predates soccer, at least in an organized form in England, and the term pitch was applied first to its playing field, then later to soccer as that sport became codified in the 1800s.
And no, the marathon runner is not the best conditioned of the three. Each are conditioned for the sport in which they specialize. The marathon runner is completely outclassed in the 100 meter dash, but the sprinter would be lost in the sumo ring. Exactly how much running does the goalie do in a game?
It was over last year for me!
Last year freed up a lot of spare time. This year has (and will) as well.
Ive been reading comments on articles. As you would guess, its about 50-50, which is where you land in anything that gets politicized. The half that disapprove almost all are acting on their anger. Turning off NFL, not going to games, burning jerseys, burning tickets and I saw one group sharing a list of NFL sponsors to boycott. Commenters identifying as Military, Police or Fire Dept veterans are in particular pissed off. Wonder how the players will feel about their protest when the salary cap gets slashed due to revenue loss?
Interesting to note. The League does have a rule on the matter. Page 62 and 63. If they would have followed this rule in the beginning, they wouldn’t find themselves in this crap storm.
“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”
If that's the case: Taking the side that only has 13% of the population is probably not a good business plan.
NFL viewership skews heavily male, Trump voters skew male, the NFL just lost over 50% of their viewers.
Good for them.
I think rugby is a better sport.
We are watching the NFL dissolve right before our eyes.
