JACKSONVILLE, Fla. During a time where a large number of Florida residents are without power in the wake of Hurricane Irma, two Florida men were caught attempting to steal a $2,500 utility pole.
42-year-old Blake Lee Waller and 46-year-old Victor Walter Apeler were arrested on grand theft charges Wednesday after someone reported seeing them load the pole onto the top of their car, according to the Jacksonville sheriffs office.

Indeed!
Although, I Believe the Law states that the safety flag needs to be red in color.
This one is obviously in violation of the Law!
:-)
That would have been great as Live PD fodder.
You know it was one of the dude’s shirts!
Absolutely! hehehe
Maybe they had some big dancers to bring it to!
At least they tied a warning flag to the end of it. So there’s that.
I wonder how far they drove before they got stopped...
They both had three names—dead giveaway they are kooks. :-)
Your honor...the hurricane blew that onto my client’s vehicle.
Officer, it fell on top of my car. I’m lucky I wasn’t killed.
I'm sure that's what the utility pays for them. I would assume these two were looking to sell it to a scrap yard or recycling center, but how to you explain how you came to own it?
These are likely not the sharpest tools in the shed.
Well they just didn’t want to get stopped by the cops for Failure to Fly Flag at End of Pole.
According to Missouri law it would have to be a red flag.
LOL!
At least they put the safety flag on the back - stupid is as stupid does...
I’d doubt the city could or would buy such a thing used, dented up, probably with a cracked weld around the fat end. That looks like the horizontal boom that runs parallel to the roadway and hold 1-2-3 traffic light assy’s and is attached to the vertical post. You can see 1-2 of them in the pic still attached. It probably had a square mounting foot with four fat bolts going into a pad on the vertical and the weld to that square pad failed with torque/flex in the wind. So the fat end of that boom has an obvious cracked weld. Scrap. Very incriminating scrap!
Or who's getting the contractor kickback$ and likely that comes with big contractor/manufacturer political contributions, pay to play and on and on...
How is that thing worth $2500?
It’s a union pole no doubt. The contractors/manufactureres putting in the bids no doubt sweetened the deal for the local political hacks.
We are filing suit against the city for damages.
LOL, there’s the answer we’ve been clamoring for. Attack of the 50 Foot Pole Dancer.
