South Park Is Returning, and Their First Target Is Tiki Torch Bearing White Supremacists
Redstate ^ | September 13, 2017

When the world gets crazy, South Park usually makes good sense of it through its satirical wit and no holds barred comedy, and South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have a lot to talk about for their 21st season.

And first up on the chopping block is the tiki torch carrying, Confederate flag waving mob seen in Charlotesville according to the trailer for the first episode titled “White People Renovating Houses.” “Protestors armed with tiki torches and confederate flags take to the streets of South Park. Randy comes to grips with what it means to be white in today’s society,” reads the episode’s description.

Life would be stifling if everyone agreed on everything.

yes

When comedy central made them censor muhammad they made an episode where muhammad is only depicted in a bear suit.

It would. This morning, one of the ladies in my prayer group was talking about her son’s girlfriend’s family (yeah I know, quite a chain ;-), in which no discussion of issues is allowed. The father has his perspective, and that’s it.

In my family, everyone reads except the 5-year-old. Even the 8-year-old reads the Wall Street Journal, and we all hang around talking about it, louder and louder ...

But nobody is kicked out if they disagree. You can always find a point of agreement, if you try ... even if it’s, “Oh, zot, I was your age once ...”. This is how I grew up. My husband had to learn that we could be bringing up all our artillery about tax rates or health insurance policy, but it wasn’t personal.

If Moslems thought it was okay, then it wasn’t okay.

Per this article, a website known for supporting jihad against the West, published a warning to Matt Stone and Trey Parker—the creators of “South Park" - that they could end up like Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was shot and stabbed to death by an extremist, for depicting Muhammad on their show.

Trey and Matt submitted shows to Comedy Central (which runs their show) depicting Muhammad but the channel either censored or bleeped much of that content. Stone said about the whole incident:

I think Comedy Central totally f****** ****ed out. Now, they weren’t any different than anyone else, so it’s not like you can single them out. But I think it would’ve been an important statement for one media outlet in America to stand up. That was one of my most disappointing moments as an American—the American press’s reaction to the Muhammad cartoons. It was completely wimpy. Cartoonists, people who do satire—we’re not in the army, we’re never going to be f****** drafted and this is our time to stand up and do the right thing. And to watch the New York Times, Comedy Central, everybody just go ‘No, we’re not going to do it because basically we’re afraid of getting bombed’ sucked. I was so disappointed.

Yea, the show is crude and just wrong at times. I find myself turning it off not infrequently. It is also at times brilliant. It is hard to paint the show with a broad brush - libertarian is more right than wrong - but this exchange sums it up nicely:

Q: Are you two guys liberal or conservative? Me and my friends have had debates about this.

Parker: We avoid extremes but we hate liberals more than conservatives and we hate them [conservatives].

Stone: I hate conservatives but I really f****** hate liberals.

There are other shows I'd avoid before South Park. Your mileage may vary.

When I was growing up, none of this stuff was ever discussed. If it was discussed at school, it went over my head. and was certainly not discussed at home. I wasn’t politically aware until I was about thirty.

Maybe it was a function of the 50s. Living under the threat of nuclear annihilation and communism may have dampened dissent. Though I remember thinking when I was 5 that Hitler was just another name for the devil. You can imagine where I got that. :p

When I was a kid, we talked about nuclear war, too. Somehow, I learned that what kids think is ignorant, but they can grow up and have something to contribute.

The more I think about my parents, the better they look.

I take it you never saw Team America. It's not only genius, it's the hardest takedown of Hollywood you'll ever see.

And the best part that Alec Baldwin (or was it Arec Barwin?) ever played. The same for Matt Damon...

I wouldn’t take it personally.

To paraphrase Joe the Love Potato, "That's OK, I just won't watch it."

I probably won’t either. Comedy Central doesn’t make it to my program guide. I like SP but nothing else on the channel.

I just watched it, too, and it was mild for South Park. Phooey. Anyone who finds it offensive has issues.

Um....yea......

If you don’t know anything about popular culture, you probably should not talk about popular culture.

(Though after 21 years, I’m not sure South Park is really popular culture at this point).
