Former President Jimmy Carter offered a damning indictment of U.S. foreign policy and domestic affairs Tuesday, saying money in politics makes the nation more like an oligarchy than a democracy and casting President Donald Trump as a disappointment on the world stage.
Carters criticisms, offered at his annual presentation to backers of his post-presidency Carter Center in Atlanta, went beyond Trump, but he was particularly critical of the nations direction under the Republican presidents leadership.
The 39th president, a Democrat, offered this advice to the 45th: Keep the peace, promote human rights and tell the truth.
Carter, 92, did not mention explicitly Trumps threatening exchanges this summer with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, but the former president said the U.S. should engage directly with the insular leader and discuss a peace treaty to replace the cease fire that ended the Korean War in 1953.
I would send my top person to Pyongyang immediately, if I didnt go myself, Carter said, noting that hes been three times to the country, even as successive U.S. administrations have refused to deal with the regime.

Sure, Trump needs advice exactly from Jimmy Carter.
After Jimmy Carter, I have never voted democrat since. He was a disgrace and I’m ashamed to say he is from my state. What a bleeding heart wusssss.
Get bent Peanuts.
Was anybody asking your advice, Mr. Carter?
The pro-abortion Sunday school teacher speaketh.
**After Jimmy Carter, I have never voted democrat since.**
I was 22, and was absorbed with farming during the day, and meeting chicks in the evening. I wasn’t particularly politically driven. But I saw Carter as a fake of sorts, wearing his hair in a JFK style. And his voice was not that impressive.
When he embargoed US grain to Russia, he hurt the cornbelt states big time. His cowardice in dealing with inflation and interest rates, showed millions of Americans that he was failure at his job.
Speaking of foreign policy successes, let’s examine the U.S. embassy in Tehran, circa 11/4/79. Show us exactly how negotiations work.
I’ll just say it. Jimmy Carter seems like a statesman and a good decent human being I would have cup of coffee with after seeing the bisexual islamic Kenyan Indonesian Marxist, and the liquor soggy lesbo revolutionary socialist coke whore from Arkansas.
I remember thinking Carter had to be the worst thing that could ever happen to America.
After Bush, Obama, McCain, Hillary, etc...I wasn’t even on the ballpark on “worst”.
Jimmy carter giving advice on what to do as president
is like a toad giving out beauty secrets.
He has never been right before Reagan ran against him either. Weakness with respect to Iran, downplaying the Soviet threat, and backing Mugabe (ZANU-PF was sponsored by Red China) over Muzorewa in Rhodesia?
Jimmy carter giving advice on what to do as president
is like Janet Reno giving out beauty secrets.
There is not that much difference between Carter and Obama. No need to pretend there is; he was a prelude. Reagan helped us forget.
Thank you for the addendum; you are correct, painfully so.
>>tell the truth’
Hey. You first Jimmuh.
Tell everybody how you and Zbig funded and instigated the Islamic revolution of 1979:

Step up or shut up!
Carter should keep his peace.
Oh there’s a HUGE difference. Like I said. Carter actually had an education in a tough field. He served in the Navy and knew what a corpsman was. He isn’t a bisexual bath house guy like Barry. He isn’t a revolutionary socialist.
Of course he was basically naïve and was not a powerful man. A poor leader. But I cannot imagine him at a spirit cooking party.
I’d throw back at you. If you had to have Carter or Obama as a neighbor, which would you pick? If you think they are the same, that’s pretty delusional.
Reagan and the 80s killed Carterism. The true beginnings of Obama and Clinton came from GHW Bush and his tainted family. Reagans only mistake was to let the GOP saddle him with Bush.
Pretty ironic for the no nuke president. Too bad he didn’t talk to Amy about it before he gave the norks nukes. /s
Carter was just feckless, like Sessions. The Iranians ate his lunch. The Russians ate his lunch. His solution to energy was to wear a sweater and keep the heat low.
Like I said, horrible president. But much better than any we’ve had since 1988. And they keep getting worse every year. I’m hoping Trump breaks that chain.
