Oh there’s a HUGE difference. Like I said. Carter actually had an education in a tough field. He served in the Navy and knew what a corpsman was. He isn’t a bisexual bath house guy like Barry. He isn’t a revolutionary socialist.
Of course he was basically naïve and was not a powerful man. A poor leader. But I cannot imagine him at a spirit cooking party.
I’d throw back at you. If you had to have Carter or Obama as a neighbor, which would you pick? If you think they are the same, that’s pretty delusional.
Reagan and the 80s killed Carterism. The true beginnings of Obama and Clinton came from GHW Bush and his tainted family. Reagans only mistake was to let the GOP saddle him with Bush.
Being confident of our own future, we are now free of that inordinate fear of communism which once led us to embrace any dictator who joined us in that fear. Im glad that that's being changed. That is a lie about what the USA was doing to fight communism. (In that same speech, he spoke against colonialism too, as a sort of foreshadowing of Obama.)
Now, I believe in détente with the Soviet Union. To me it means progress toward peace. But the effects of détente should not be limited to our own two countries alone. We hope to persuade the Soviet Union that one country cannot impose its system of society upon another, either through direct military intervention or through the use of a client states military force, as was the case with Cuban intervention in Angola.Yet he covered up what Red China was doing to Rhodesia via the efforts of Mugabe and ZANU-PF. That is the deepest depth of hypocrisy.
It’s a false dilemma being forced to choose Carter or Obama as a neighbor. I’d move out, if I couldn’t keep either of them out of my neighborhood.
I’ll point out that for 1976, it was around sixteen Democrats in the primary period. With all the Watergate hype, everyone felt we needed some ethical ‘answer’ as President. So the ethical period went into effect. Four years later, Jimmy’s lack of leadership and executive skills were apparent. He was not a guy suited for the job required. Nice enough guy...probably did know some things about farming. But he was way beyond his skill level for the job required.
I grant that there’s one positive to Carter: his being a one-termer.
