My Dad’s parents lived there.
I know the place.

There ain’t nothing like a good hardware store!
That well and truly sucks. In my first and second-hand experience, places like that who have been around for that many decades (in this case, centuries) usually continue to carry or can order hard-to-find items dating back to the era they went into business, and forward. I’ll bet they could get you some replica Colonial and Victorian era hardware and finishings that would take an evening on the Internet to track down. Places like that are a wonder to explore, like a time capsule into America’s past.
Things just gets Worcester and Worcester in Worcester.
No author. Whoever wrote it is an amateur at English grammar.

I understand that the store resembles the ‘Old House’ in the Dark Shadows series.
D.E. Turner Hardware here in Mooresville, NC celebrated the 118th anniversary with Jack who has owned the Store for decades and been there for 71 years.
I always go to see Jack 1st before going and spending money anyplace else.
The oldest Business in Mooresville.
When we moved from a small town [population under 3K], with a wonderful hardware store, where we traded for years, I was crestfallen, b/c my new town had no small hardware store; Need for a simple *S* hook, I went to a Home Depot nearby; after 45 mins of trudging around with a very nice clerk, we couldn't find one. Fast forward about ten years, happened to be in the area of my old hometown hardware store, and the second I walked in Art, the owner, greeted me by my name. I was blown away. In 2 or 3 quick steps, he found what I was looking for.
Some things are best left unchanged.
FWIW, the very BEST hardware store in New England was the Clinton Hardware Store; always had anything you needed; I loved the stuff on the shelves, layered with the dust of decades. Goodness. The things you could find. [Need a key for your roller skates? Got it. Aisle 2.]
Thank God one hardware store is in my area that carries the hard to find more localized stuff. It is ten miles away and I just have to make the trip sometimes. There is a second one too but have to check it more.
I wonder what their oldest piece of unsold inventory is?
Maybe fruitcake from their 1783 Christmas display?
