First the squalls, then the swelter.

Nearly a million Miami-area residents lacking electricity and air conditioning are bracing for oppressively hot weather on the heels of Hurricane Irma.

Almost three-quarters of Florida Power and Light’s 1.1 million customers in Miami-Dade County have no power, and officials are warning it could be weeks before electricity is restored, according to a Sun-Sentinel report.

And temperatures are set to soar: Sweltering air and humidity are expected to broil Miami with a heat index as high as 108 degrees over the next four days, according to AccuWeather...

Every state has air conditioning

Here in Maine we need AC about one week a year.

Yeah, I’m in Washington State where we get cool nights but noticed after insulating my shed how hard it is to get it cooled down at night — even with doors/windows wide open and all kinds of roof ventilation.

You need solar panels / storage batteries / inverter also for more than a few days of electrical outage. Doesn’t have to be a permanent installation. Mine don’t even breath hard keeping the refrigeration going. Just be sure to keep the refrigerator door closed tight!

You obviously haven’t been there - some comments are better served by not being served.

Having been raised in Lousiana during the early 50s sans A/C

I spent two years in an open Army barracks with no A/C in Panama..........There was always high humidity but during the rainy season which was from mid March to December, it was off the charts. If you let your boots sit for a week without rotating them, they would be covered in mildew......

When you went to bed in your bunk, you only needed a sheet to cover yourself. we never needed blankets
