Pulling and Purging President Polk
Unfortunately self | Self

Posted on 09/08/2017 4:00:47 PM PDT by morphing libertarian

I am joining AntiFA, Cleansing America, La Reconquista, La Raza, Mexifornia for Mexicans Society, Congressional Latino Caucus, Historical Truth For America ssociation, and the George Soros Spirit of America Assoc. and the democrat party in calling for urging all things Polk from the united states immediately. We are already moving to change the name of the Florida county to Treyvon County.

A short list of his crimes includes, being born in NC, attending an all-white church, being a follower of Andrew Jackson, being home schooled, taking imperialistic military action against Mexico, claiming as a white man being a "dark horse" for president, being supported by Clay and Calhoun and many other pro-spavery power brokers, telling racial jokes, sneering at a Negro WH staff who spilled coffee, supporter of manifest destiny leading to the genocide of Indians except those who survived to build casinos, Annexing Texas (look at the mess that created) Making Mexicans mad, making the statement "Nueces! I like the fishing better in the rio Grande," colluding to start rebellion in California (look where that got us), being an instrument of the "Slave Power'"

Actually, historians have ranked Polk as one of the top ten Presidents in American history.

your knowledge of history is only exceeded by your sense of humor. You dp know many think washington is number 1 or 2 and people want his name banished. this subject is the inevitable conseqence of extreme liberal think. Thank you for seeing the satire

In 4th grade, before the days of internet searches, I had to do a paper on Polk. I didn’t have a clue so wrote what I could remember about Lincoln and held up a picture of Jefferson. The teacher never made a comment. Poor Polk never gets any respect.

I said among the top ten. I didn't say Polk was the greatest.

And it's true - go read up on President Polk. Arguably, he was the greatest President of the 1800s.

When I taught Jr High history, I told my students that Polk was the most important President they had never heard of. In just 4 years, he negotiated a treaty with Britain for the lower half of the Oregon Country (even though campaign said “54º 40’ or fight!). Annexed Texas, won the Mexican war and gained the rest of the American southwest (except for the Gadsen Purchase). Because of Polk, the U.S. stretched from sea to sea.

He called himself the hardest-working man in the U.S. Reminds me a bit of President Trump (although Time or Newsweek calls him “lazy”).

surely would have changed history if he hadn’t opted out of a second term.

Well, he died three months into what would have been his second term. So who knows?

The Whigs, including Congressman Lincoln, misrepresented the Mexican war for reasons having to do with domestic politics (the real issue was the potential expansion of slave states)...just as politicians misrepresent things today. In 1836 Santa Anna, who was dictator of Mexico, signed a peace treaty with the Republic of Texas making the Rio Grande the boundary with Texas. After being deposed, he returned to power and ignored the treaty, trying to push Texas back to the Neuces. Santa Anna’s forces spilled American blood on the US side of the border, and the rest is history. With the indispensable help of the Texas Rangers Zachary Taylor destroyed Santa Anna’s army at Buena Vista, and Winfield Scott pushed inland from Vera Cruz. As for any Mexican claim to Texas and the Southwest, bear in mind that Mexicans didn’t want to live north of the Rio Grande because of the climate, Apaches, and Comanches. As late as 1830 fewer than 4k Mexicans (including soldiers) lived north of the Rio Grande in Texas, and then only in small settlements in La Bahia, San Antonio, Santa Fe, and Nacogdoches. Moreover, the ridiculous Mexican territorial claims derived from the Spaniards, who thought that vast expanses were theirs if they went somewhere, planted a flag, claimed the area and enormous regions beyond, and then left. The war forced Mexico to honor Santa Anna’s treaty, and the US paid Mexico millions pursuant to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to relinquish its bogus Spanish claims to Texas (I’m not addressing California and other parts of the SW, although they were part of the treaty). At the time Texas included a large part of NM (including Santa Fe) and more territory in Colorado). Texans (including Tejanos) won in 1836 because they settled Texas, not Mexicans, and in the subsequent war the US didn’t attempt to “nation build”, but got out of Mexico.

He packed a lot into one term.
If you phrased it “Who did the most in 4 years?” The answer would be “Polk!” at Number 1!
