My deepest condolences to the Gentry family and friends.
But I gotta ask, who is Troy Gentry?

Montgomery Gentry 40 minutes ago
It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash which took place at approximately 1:00pm today in Medford, New Jersey. The duo was scheduled to perform tonight at the Flying W Airport & Resort in Medford. Troy Gentry was 50 years old.
Details of the crash are unknown.
Troy Gentry's family wishes to acknowledge all of the kind thoughts and prayers, and asks for privacy at this time.

Musicians should never get on aircraft. Ask Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Ricky Nelson, Ritchie Valens, et al.

Yeah, but he was a certified pilot and declined an offer of a refueling before he took off. Plus, his drivers license was suspended at the time due to drunk driving. If he had properly reported his license revocation the FAA would pulled this pilot’s ticket too.

Saw them in concert back when Hannity was holding the Support the Troop concerts after September 11. Great group if you like country rock.

Also Stevie Ray Vaughn. I was not a fan, but recall he crashed at Alpine Valley, which is less than a 2 hour drive from here (southern WI). It was a big news story here.
I am/was a John Denver fan since I was a teenager, and he had hits on the radio at that time. He died on my birthday which was a bummer. Also a bummer that he was in such a crappy experimental plane where the second fuel tank switch was hard to reach. Had he filled the first tank before the flight, like he was offered, he’d still be singing and enjoying his 3 kids.
