The 10 Most Meaningful Games of Week 1 [College Football]
Sports Illustrated ^ | August 30, 2017 | Chris Johnson

By the time the College Football Playoff selection committee gets ready to reveal the final four in early December, the opening week of the season will have faded into the rearview. Teams that have plowed through their conference schedules can make a strong final impression by winning their league title games, while at the same time hoping other contenders suffer a late L. But the matchups that take place early in the season can carry just as much weight in the eyes of the committee. Whether it’s two blue bloods squaring off in an NFL dome or a fringe top-10 team welcoming a frisky mid-major to campus, season openers can be the difference between a squad earning a ticket to a national semifinals or settling for a New Year’s Six Bowl with no path to the title game. What you’ll spend hours watching this weekend, in other words, matters a lot.

“When was the last time Red Grange was relevant, he played in the 20s for God sake.”

Ever hear the term, “eternal verity?”

No, I haven’t. Please explain how I should be supporting left-wing organizations because of “eternal verity”

No doubt. I fully expect it to be televised given the potential for offense. I’ve been a OSU fan since I was a kid in Stillwater and I would love to see them play for a national championship. However, the season is always stellar as long as they manage to beat the Sooners.

My daughter just started at Tech, and I think that’s the game I’ll go to. Their home schedule is pretty bad this year, all their good games with the exception of Okla State are on the road.

Methinks MI will beat FL.

Unless the FL players stop breaking the law.

Heck, I hope the Gators have enough to play.

Wisconsin is on the not interesting list most of the year. Playing 1 ranked team the whole year based on current standings. Playing LSU out of gate last year was genius. Guess they are still stuck in non competition. Thank God I’m SEC land 2 1/2 hrs. from the Tide. It’s entertaining.

Looking forward to Notre Dame vs. my USC Trojans later in the fall. Hopefully the Cardinal and Gold win!

Yea, Tulsa might play half of the 3rd quarter. They just never have any depth.

Do USC games count this year?

The real USC ( South Carolina) plays NC ST. in Charlotte. Going to be a dogfight but I like the Gamecocks to surprise a number of people this year.

They are playing NC State. They should win.

Good Lord, the number of COEXIST bumper stickers on the cars is enough to make me puke. I must also mention their proclivity to drive 60 in the left lane.

here’s one I like:

Alabama fan, Auburn fan, and a Tennessee fan in a bar...

They all go to the restroom together...After they whizz, the “bama fan goes to the sink and turns the water on full, soaps up to his elbows and rinses...He looks at the other two and says, “At Alabama, they taught us cleanliness...”

The Auburn guy turns barely a little water on dabs lightly at the soap...He says, “At Auburn, they taugh us thriftiness...”

The Tennessee guy just looks at them and walks to the door...He turns and says, “At Tennessee, they taught us not to piss on our hands...”

You may be right, but if QB Frank’s is merely decent it will be a UF win IMNSHO.

GO GATORS!

Franks wasn’t bad, Michigan’s defense was simply excellent.

UF had a great defense as well, but Michigan is loaded. You won’t play a team that good on your side of the SEC.
