It wasn't for the lack of Holmes trying to take him out. Cobb just got the hell kicked out of him. So bad that Howard Cosell said that he wouldn't do another boxing match. This proclamation led to one of greatest comments ever uttered by a boxer: "Until I discover the cure for cancer, this will have to be my greatest contribution to mankind." Randy Cobb wasn't a good boxer but he was one of the funniest ever.
My dad has that fight on VHS. Cobb was a tough old coot.
Great recall on that Cobb fight. Remember him looking like he was hit by a road grinder but he refused to go down. If not a w by mcgregor Insee a similar I hung with you till the end result.
I remember Holmes looking at the ref to see if he was going to stop it and then loading up and hitting Tex with a huge punch and Tex still not going down.
Yup, and Cobb's post-fight interview featured probably my favorite one-liner. Howard Cosell called the fight and was so outraged that the referee didn't stop it that he announced that he would never call another fight. Cobb was asked what he thought about Cosell's retirement in the post-fight, and he replied, "I'll go another 15 rounds with Holmes right now if he'll give up Monday Night Football."
