In a report Zinke submitted to the White House, the secretary recommended reducing the size of Utahs Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments, as well as Oregons Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, according to multiple individuals briefed on the decision.
President Bill Clinton declared the 1.9 million-acre Grand Staircase-Escalante in 1996, while President Barack Obama designated the 1.35 million-acre Bears Ears last year. Cascade-Siskiyou, which now encompasses more than 113,000 acres, was established by Clinton shortly before leaving office and expanded by Obama in January.

Dear gawd.
Keeping up with Clinton corruption is too time consuming for others of us....its just too long a list.
“No President should use the authority under the Antiquities Act to restrict public access, prevent hunting and fishing, burden private land, or eliminate traditional land uses, unless such action is needed to protect the object, Zinke said in a statement. “

This is a good thing.

Have to look at the maps. I’m sure some tweaks might be made to satisfy people but some of these are really great areas to have preserved, to visit. If reduced, what is the result? It won’t get sold off, transferred to the state, etc. Trump’s already said something to that effect during the election. I suspect that no matter what he does or does not do, it will upset conservatives. His kids like the outdoors, hunting, etc., maybe open these up? Loosen rules for them?
Huge Libturd federal land grabs, only partially reversed. Zinke should have recommended eliminating these unnecessary “national monuments.”
Yup
I recall the same corrupt motive. That said, there is some pretty country in that part of Utah. The other two are pretty country but not really spectacular and impeding logging had much to do with the Oregon park.
Anyone I hear now saying anything like this gets made fun of from me. These people are nuts, and earlier this week I attended a meeting held by a black pastor who does not even live here , and wants to remove two 140 year monuments. On Monday I will be attending a town hall meeting where I then can speak up, and trust me these lunatics will hear from me. I am so sick of these people .
The meeting I went to consisted of a black girl in college saying she does not feel welcome , because of the monument, another black man said his 40 year old son will not go into the town center as he feels he will be attacked due to the monuments.
The kicker here is that the college girl stated she is in the black student association. Black student association, and she feels she is not a part of the community when she joins a group which is segregated , what an idiot, and all of them are liars.
Different kind of monuments in this instance.
To the Demonuts monuments is monuments and must be removed ,so remove ,LOL

"Zinke traveled to five states during the process, visiting Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante and Cascade-Siskiyou plus Katahdin Woods and Waters in Maine; Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks in New Mexico; and Gold Butte and Basin and Range in Nevada. "
Gold Butte is the grazing area at the center of the cattle round-up and armed standoff in April 2014 involving Bundy and federal land management agents.
That land needs to be returned back to the states. Why? Because the govt. has taken that land out of the potential tax base which severely restricts the State’s ability to fund itself.

Thanks for that info-——I never even gave a thought to that aspect of the situation.
You are correct.
.
As an aside, I personally think we should charge Europeans and other foreign visitors 3-4 times as much as we charge American citizens to visit Yosemite and other national parks. Call it a tax, for social programs. The Europeans will have a hard time arguing about that. No American passport, cough up the money to visit our wilderness.
What exactly do you mean, return to the states? This land was never owned by the state, and never will be. It is federal land, is our public lands. Yes, it would be nice to more efficiently use some of it, but not give it away. Not sell it.
“You’re fired.”
Seriously, is this what interior secretaries do?
Works for me.
This will not help the Bundys. They wanted to steal the use of this land instead of paying for it like everybody else. No one, Trump or otherwise, is going to let them steal the use of our public land.
