NEW YORK, N.Y. (WENY) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo is urging the U.S. Army to remove the names of Confederate Generals from the streets of a New York City military base.
Earlier this month, Army officials denied requests to remove the names of two Confederate Generals from the streets of Fort Hamilton.
They said the move would be controversial.
After recent events, Governor Cuomo is urging the Army to reconsider.
Cuomo says symbols of slavery and racism have no place in New York.
He believes renaming of the streets will send a clear message that New York stands against intolerance and racism

Not enough, Gov. New York was founded by the Dutch, notorious slave traders and slave owners.
“In 1814, the Netherlands signed an international agreement to stop the slave trade. On 1 July 1863, slavery itself was officially abolished in the main Dutch slave colony of Surinam. The effect was not immediate however. Although released from slavery, plantation workers were required to continue their former work for another ten years on contract basis. Sympathy among the Dutch lay with the slave owners, not the victims of slavery.”
It took the Dutch nearly 50 years to end slavery in their Western Hemisphere colony after having signed an international treaty to end it!
So, NY must eliminate EVERY Dutch name from the entire state AND destroy EVERY statue of every Dutch founder. To get started, use the following list. There are THOUSANDS more that must be eliminated. Maybe every little Dutch burg and town needs to be leveled because you cannot be too cautious about such things. We won’t be safe until every vestige of slavery is eliminated.

What a pathetic Leftist. His absurd demand represents an obvious form of extreme intolerance. And since it is also apparently a racially motivated attack on a specific people, the former Southern leadership, it probably reflects racial animosity, as well.

And when the US ARMY named those streets, it was in a spirit of reconciliation, brotherhood, and in a spirit of forgiving and asking for forgiveness. These people are clueless about the reasons and about our shared heritage, north and south, black and white, slave and free.

However, now I think it’s time to put them in a museum, with plaques that explain such eloquent explanation.
To go even further, I concede, as a northerner, that the Confederate States should have become a second country, and many treaties could have been worked out from there.
Slavery was on its way out regardless. I really do do see it as a war between the states, and that unfortunately D.C. won, which is where many of our problems come from.
The knee-jerk reactionaries are now trying to antagonize the spirit of reconciliation that our forefathers performed in order to bind up the countries wounds.
A divisive _resident inflamed those long forgotten and healed wounds, and created animus and organized groups to purposely divide the nation.
Unfortunately, his divisive legacy lives on, funded by his reputation, political ambitions, ability to raise funds, and oratory.
These Confederate Generals are recognized as being U.S. Army veterans, and deserve the honor and respect due them.
Not so much respect and honor for the groups which choose to inflame old wounds, tear down monuments, and participate in "group think" anti-American activities and tear down monuments.
These people are clueless, have the memory retention of a gnat, and are used to getting their news in 30 second 'sound bites',
and lack respect for history and the social advancement of this country based solely on their contrived emotional 'feelings'.
These Confederate Generals are U.S. Army veterans !
