I don't get this waiting to announce an engagement mentality. If they are engaged, announce it today. How does an announcement interfere with any other celebrations? It's all so stupid, but I guess these stories get clicks (like mine).

My family left England in 1690, so color me uninterested.
As I look around, I see more and more young girls, in their early teens, giving away the precious gift of their virginity at younger and younger ages to less and less desirable men. Which leads me to the question of, "Why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for nothing?".
Back seventy years ago and earlier, families in the USA had their own milk cows, having a cow for milk, was not easy. It meant getting up early to milk her, cleaning her stall, feeding her, seeing her through sick times and protecting her from thieves and wild animals. So often times, when the cow would give to much milk for the family to use, they would give or sell the excess milk. The reason being, there were many who would not go to the trouble of owning a cow, so they would rather buy milk than go through the trouble and work of owning their own cow. As a result, the saying came about, "Why buy the cow, when you can buy the milk or get the milk for free?". We still use this saying today, but today, it has nothing to do with cows, but instead has to do with girls and their willingness to sexually satisfy every Tom, Dick and Harry for nothing more than a scratch behind the ears and a "good girl". Today, the question would be more aptly phrased, "Why get married and put up with her temperament and quirks when she'll give me all the sexual satisfaction I want for a simple scratch behind the ears and a 'good girl'?".
Now, I understand why young Christian men and women get married, but for the life of me, I can't think of any good reasons for unsaved, heathen, promiscuous, men and women get married. For I just come back to the same question. If she says yes to every guy who says hi to her, why would anyone want to marry her? Think about it, why did God create marriage in the first place? Did He not create marriage for the sole purpose of creating families? A mom to have children and a Dad to protect and support them? Why did God give girls a positive sign of virginity? God did it as a special wedding gift one that no other could duplicate and one that no one could get more than one of? Yet, many unsaved girls treat it with no more respect than anything else their bodies expels.
So, why do heathen men today buy the cow when the milk is so readily available free? I don't know, but this I do know. Today's secular marriages are a long way from the marriages that God ordained. And we the small Born Again Washed in the blood of the Lamb Christian community, must pray for the children of such unholy secular unions, for the children are the result, for the most part, not of love, but of lust.
Now, why is it that girls have become so loose? So promiscuous? So easy? So willing to satisfy men sexually for nothing more than a "good girl" and scratch behind the ears? So ready to risk AIDS, HIV, syphilis, herpes, and a host of other sexual disease? So willing to put themselves in a position to kill their little baby in their womb?
That question I can answer! Fathers and preachers! When was the last time, you as a dad took the bull by the horns so to speak and told your daughter that you expect her to be a virgin the day she gets married? When was the last time you heard the importance of virginity preached from the pulpit of your family church? As God gave your daughter her virginity, so did He also give you the responsibility of raising her. God has not only made you her father, He has made you responsible for her spiritual upbringing as well. You as the man of the house are also the direct representative Christ of the house. You are to do for your family what Christ did for His church. And that includes teaching, preaching and living a life that reflects Christ in you.
So, who is to blame for little girls 12 and 13 years old bing tramps, whores and worse? Those poor girl's fathers, the preacher in the pulpit and to a lesser degree mothers are to blame. It is through their laziness, lack of morals, hatred of God and His Word, and their refusal to take responsibility that we now have girls treating their virginity and self respect with contempt. Now, shall I say, God forgive them? God forbid!
What I will say is, it is not too late, turn to the Lord today for His help and take your place at the head of the family. Do not expect it to be easy, for satan will not give up your wife, your daughters and yours sons easily. Nor will satan give you up easily. And to that I will add, and may our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus be with you and help you, may He give you the strength you'll need and may He remember that He has promised us that He will allow us to bear no more than He knows we can handle and help you to understand and know that He will be with you and He will protect you and He will not allow satan to do any more to you than Jesus knows you can handle.
But, remember this: No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Luke 16:13)
No, you cannot serve both God and satan and neither can your sons and daughters. Men, it is time to stop trying to be her best friend and start being her father!
