Toppling statues? Here’s why Nelson’s column should be next
UK Guardian ^ | August 22, 2017 | Afua Hirsch

The area I grew up in, leafy Wimbledon in south-west London, is bordered by memorials to two towering historical figures. One side dedicates its streets and walls to the legacy of the abolitionist William Wilberforce: the remnants of a house where he lounged with his friends, and the mounting block he used to get on his horse to ride to the Houses of Parliament, still stand.

This hack claims Nelson was pro-slavery and used his seat in the House of Lords to oppose Wilberforce. I find that idea absolute rubbish. Nelson was made a peer in 1798 as a reward for his victories. He was out to sea most of the time thereafter fighting the Spanish and French until his death at Trafalgar in 1805. I assume this woman would rather be speaking French. But hey Napoleon was trying to create a united Europe.

True. I doubt Lord Nelson ever even saw the House of Lords. If he wasn’t fighting he was in Italy with that Hamilton Woman he was having a affair with.

Also England lead the way in abolishing slavery in 1833.

This "writer" is an uneducated ( no matter her supposed "degrees" ), black female lefty, who is just a lousy stupid MILLENNIAL who works for SKY NEWS.

Yes, I looked up the name, because I wondered who wrote this benighted, meritless drivel.

And so the Great Leftist Cultural Revolution spreads from America to Britain.

Imagine if one allowed this women inside Westminster Abbey where all the dead white “racists” are buried. She would tear the place down.

"This woman," Afua Hirsch, is half Ghanian (Black) and half-Jewish (English-Jewish father) whose mother was a migrant to Norway when her father impregnated her there. She probably hates herself even more than she hates Britain and its history.

Of course, the hard left doesn’t give Wilberforce much credit either as he far predated Marx.

My linkeage and last give a damn about Britain happened about 1775, when a brave ancestor, some of his brothers and neighbors signed a letter of concernment and sent it the insane King George. They were considered to be some of the first of our revolutionay war vets.

America is obviously not adult enough to have statues where nobody is offended or adult enough to walk on past and not let inanimate objects bother them without behaving like little terrorists SOOOO...

I suggest we tear down ALL statues. Every last one in all 50 states. Don’t care their race or religion, if they are stone or bronze. Pull them down, bust them up, melt them down for their raw materials and be done with them. Yes, including the Statue of Liberty. By Executive Order and Federal Decree.

What could be more fair than that?

Well, that would seem to ‘solve’ the problem.

But then, with all this new power they have ‘gained’ —flags attached to your home, flag decals, my Vietnam Vet hat etc etc etc will be the new target.

Not being repetitive but the old
‘They Came for the Jews and since I wasn’t Jewish’ etc etc etc is running full amok at this point.

I think the tide would turn once we got that far down the road. Flags are different, but we’ve never “pledge allegiance to the statue”...

As always with The Guardian, the comments are far more interesting than the article. Suddenly all the British leftists are having second thoughts about tearing down statues...as much as they enjoyed watching the chaos in America. LOL. Phony bastards.

Why don't we tear down the pyramids? Weren't they built by Hebrew slaves? That's something that is still today making money from slavery.

You can find websites saying Nelson spoke out in 1806 or 1807 against the abolition of the slave trade even though Nelson actually died in 1805.

I think the real story is that Nelson was friends with slave owners and wrote a letter to a plantation owner criticizing Wilberforce which was published after his death at Trafalgar.

Barbados has been debating whether to remove their statue of Nelson (older than London's) for decades. It's still there, though their Trafalgar Square has been renamed National Heroes Square.

In a sense, I am being hypothetical.

I mean keep letting these creeps inch forward and the sky is the limit.

This crap must be stopped.

If it gets to the scenario I was alluding to, blood probably would have been shed.
