what kind of 22 revolver would you recommend and why. It would be for plinking mostly. Cottonmouth elimination also. Please tell me of guns that you own(ed) and are familiar with.
> You simply cannot go wrong with a Ruger 10/22.
Good choice. I own 2 of them, but I recently picked up a Ruger American Rimfire and I like it more.
Also, I can fire subsonics with it and not worry about extracting the spent casing from the chamber. It’s a bolt action model.
Absolutely agreed. Can’t go wrong with a 10/22. I have 2 of them. Also highly recommend the Ruger Mk 1 or Mk 2 pistol. I know those aren’t revolvers but I’ve personally never shot an accurate .22 revolver. That’s just my experience of course, but I’ve put a LOT of rounds down range with Ruger .22’s and know them to be excellent.
I moved up from Ruger Mark I to a stainless steel Mark III. Absolutely fantastic, last forever guns. Very accurate.
“The Ruger single six” My first pistol. Magnum cylinder for pythons.
I’ll second the Heritage Arms .22 revolver. Get it with the .22 magnum cylinder and you can have another caliber available for it. Locally, I can get one with the extra cylinder for ~$160. It’s actually a pretty nicely made gun. The safety mechanism detracts a little from the looks, but it’s functionally fine and fits many holsters for Ruger and Colt .22 revolvers. This gun is one of those .22s that should not be dry-fired.
I have one almost just like that, except it’s blued, with the medium barrel. Love it, it’s so much fun to plink with.
10/22 is not a revolver
Is single action ok for you, or do you want a double action revolver?
S&W Model 63 SS with 4”barrel. Put some bigger grips on it and you’re good to go.
J frame. A little smaller and lighter than the kit gun.
I’m not a big fan of automatic .22s for kicking around. They just seem too snakey. Great fun at the range but revolvers are better grab and go guns.

Vaquero said “BTW. My Sears robuck 1936 bolt action Ranger rifle feeds and shoots just about anything and pretty accurately.”
My Dad ran a Jr. Rifle Club for about 25 years. During that time his “kids” won many individual and team state championships, set national Jr. records, one appointment to West Point and two full NCAA athletic scholarships.
When he (my dad) was about 9 years old and living in a very rural part of New Jersey he did some yardwork for a neighbor who paid him enough to buy a Sears Ranger. Same year 1936, the mailman delivered it to the house, handed it to a 9 year old boy.
When my oldest sister was 10 he made a glass block to take the place of the magazine (to make it single shot) and installed a Lyman peep rear and Lyman aperature front sight. My sister, who eventually became a state Jr. champion learned how to shoot with the “Marlin” ie: Sears Ranger.
Over the years literally 100s of kids squeezed the trigger for the fist time while shouldering that Ranger. Of course those who stuck with it moved onto bigger and better shootin irons. I still have that gun, it’s not functioning and the rifling is literally shot out of it. I would like to restore it to the condition it was in when on my 9th birthday I shot a rifle for the first time, an event I will never forget.
These days I shoot mainly handguns and to answer the OPs question, get a S&W 917.
Can’t go wrong with this - for the price.
S&W K22 is probably one of the best ever made. The model 617 is also excellent.
I’ve had a couple of chances to buy Mk 3’s at good prices. I passed because I don’t like the grips. Too much like holding a piece of 1 × 2 wood. Just my preference.
I scored two Remington Bucket of Bullets at my local Wmart yesterday! Thats TWO buckets with 1400 rounds each of .22s.
I replaced mine with Hogue grips. Big improvement.
Yep...and you can suppress it or get a full auto Norrell trigger for it ;)
Fat boy...
That RIFLE tells the story the way it Is.
Don’t restore it...
Even if you could.
Is That...
I mean ,you know , really?
I Hate you.
I was kidding.
Don’t be mad ...
Both the K22 and Taurus 922 would be good choices. they come with both .22LR and .22WRM cylinders.
Ruger Mk III
highly accurate
