That’s it. Read the book “Ship of Ghosts” about the ship and its crew.

One my top five movie scenes of all time. I was a movie theater usher in 1975 - I probably saw that movie over 100 times - had it memorized ...

I question is, did she have the dazzle when the sub slammed 2 torpedos into her. It was just after midnight, I don't know if it would have made a difference or not, no idea if she was still painted that way at the time.

I read the history of that Indianapolis incident back in the 1960s. A great book with many illustrations including those of the Japanese sub commander, and the photo of the US Navy destroying that sub.
One thing that I still remember, one sailor earlier had broken his foot and when he went into the water the cast pulled him down, and another lifeboat with dead sailors whose body fat had rendered into liquid lard in the tropical heat.
The Indianapolis went down so fast, the sub surfaced and saw nothing. They thought the ship had survived and sailed away.
To: fella
The survivors wound up building a railroad in Burma. when they were freed and returned home they were totally forgotten.
Don't be silly..
