I have been to the Caribbean and not to NOLA nor Detroit so what you say may be so.

Note: The Caribbean countries that stayed under European Rule tend to be much nicer in terms of laws and amenities. But all of them have beautiful beaches.

Lake not ocean but yes, you can find that around Detroit.

Believe it or not, there are beaches in NOLA on Lake Pontchartrain. The lake is brackish but nonetheless the beach is beautiful.
