That I did not know.
Makes sense.
We noticed this a few months ago. I don’t bother answering the phone any more unless there is a name attached to it. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.
If it were up to me, I would arrest these scumbags, put them in a sound proof room and play hip-hop music so loud , their eardrums would burst.
I have been getting more than one of those calls every day. Most of the time I don’t bother to answer. If I do, the best trick I have found is to say with my best DJ voice, “Hello, you’re on the air!” At least half of them hang up immediately, thinking they have called a radio station or talk show.
I love these people who go “But what if it’s an emergency?”
Who are you, Batman?
We no longer answer the phone unless we know the name. Most landline calls are scammers or politicians.
Virginia holds state elections in the off years. PITA.
I specifically don’t answer it for that exact reason. There’s only one other person that I know with the same area code and prefix as my cell, and that’s my wife’s cell phone.
Telemarketers are cancer!
I get these calls frequently.
Last night it was the local police wanting a donation.
Let these unknown but friendly looking numbers leave a message, before answering any call. These companies are BUYING LOCAL NUMBERS.
No message left from them means they are robo calls or totally unimportant.
We are getting hundreds per month. On our land line their is never a message left by these yahoos, but the numbers reappear without ceasing. Ya’ know they are robo calls.
Even local calls with no area code and appearing to be your own neighborhood, but never a message. They are buying numbers and betting on your curiosity to pick up the call.
Those who do pick up keep themselves on the call wheels.
Why are you being redundant?
‘Zactly.
One of my church friends talks to them about Jesus.
“My computer has a virus? Do you what is worse? Not knowing the Lord and going to Hell.” Click

Did you tell them you were all out of donuts?
But come on by anyway. You can’t shoot my dog, but my neighbors yapping mutt is available.
Probably not the police.
We NEVER EVER answer calls from numbers we don’t actually KNOW. If someone calls and it is important they will leave a message or get in touch with me some other way.
The fewer you answer the fewer will call. They seem to relate no answer to NOT A WORKING NUMBER. This belief keeps me from answering calls and jacking with the callers. One tactic that is really fun is to seriously lead the caller on and then after a considerable effort on their part say, “I don’t have any money. Do you offer credit?” or just a simple “Not interested.”
As someone else mentioned, the do not call registry fell apart sometime during the barky years. Hmmmm. I wonder why?
> I have started blocking any numbers I dont know.
I implemented a “white list” for my email.
All email not from an address in my contacts list goes to the spam folder.
I wish I could do this for the phone.
I just totally ignore any calls that I haven’t pre-arranged, or isn’t in my contacts list. I get a lot of “blank” voice mails, but I don’t get caught by telemarketers.
