The first U.S. boxer to fight as a woman, and then as a man

Pat Manuel’s half-hour runs along the quiet, tree-lined streets of Altadena are only partly about exercise. Mainly they’re a time to reflect on the journey that has brought him here, one that was a lot longer and bumpier than the hilly roads on which he runs.(snip)

Manuel says the biggest daily reminder that he has finally taken control of his life comes when he looks in the mirror each morning. For years he saw an uncertain woman looking back at him. Now the reflection is of a confident young man, the Adam’s apple and scruffy facial hair evidence that while Manuel’s journey is not complete, it’s now headed in the right direction.

“I still have split seconds of not recognizing myself. But for the most part, I feel more comfortable than I ever have in my body,” says Manuel, who underwent gender-reassignment surgery, becoming the first boxer in U.S. history to fight first as a woman and later as a man.

“It never crossed my mind to give up. It has absolutely been worth this journey to live publicly as my true self.”

Exactly who that true self was wasn’t apparent to Manuel growing up in the South Bay. But it was obvious to his mother, Loretta Butler, that something was unique with daughters Patricia and Megan.

“Every Christmas I would be buying toys at Toys ‘R’ Us and everybody would say, ‘You have two boys at home, huh?’ Neither Megan nor Pat played with dolls,” she says. “They both wore boys’ clothes.”

Looking back Butler blames herself for missing the cues for both Manuel and his sister Megan, who is gay.(snip)

“Pat has always been a male. It’s just Pat was not assigned properly at birth.”

Manuel, whose ancestry is Irish, Mexican and black, never really knew his father.

Actually, Patricia didn’t have her pecker lopped off, she had her BREASTS removed. She now calls herself ‘Patricio’. (Don’t know, or care to know, if she had a pecker ADDED.) I agree with her weekly therapy, though...
... except it should be mental and psychological therapy, not hormonal therapy!

At one point in the article, Patricia states, “It’s like I’m finally living my truth.” News flash, Patricia. ‘Truth’ is not subjective (no ‘mine’, ‘yours’ and ‘theirs’). ‘Truth’ is objective, based on fact, not emotion. The FACT that you have NO naturally occurring ‘Y’ chromosomes in your body means that YOU ARE FEMALE, no matter what plastic surgery horrors you have inflicted on yourself.

Patricia, get help, mental help; and bring your mother and lesbian sister along, too!

What man has anything to gain by fighting a woman in the ring? Having said that, it might only take one round of one fight to show women how stupid it is to take on a fit man in a combat related endevor.

Yes, I saw that and I considered subscribing for perhaps a millisecond but said ‘Nein!’ (I am a little off today otherwise it would only have been for a nanosecond!)

Nazis did it first. Having a man pretend to be a woman in the 1936 Olympics. Henrich/Dora Ratjen.

In a sport where reaction time is critical, this will end badly.

“Pat has always been a male. It’s just Pat was not assigned properly at birth.”

They have no idea how utterly stupid they sound. She's a female, DNA doesn't lie. One has to ask if one is a homosexual and the other is pretending to be a male.. What in the world happened to those kids growing up? It had to have been pretty horrible.

“If, however, you cannot even attempt this remarkable feat, and normally SIT or SQUAT while urinating, PLEASE USE THE FACILITIES DESIGNATED “LADIES” or “WOMEN”.
THANK YOU!”
This actually applies to individuals who can only doodle in the snow.
