Former DNC Head Debbie Wasserman Schultz finally broke her silence on arrested IT staffer Imran Awan, saying she has no regrets about keeping him on the payroll after he was blocked from working on Capitol Hill.
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz defiantly stands by her decision to keep an information technology aide on her payroll for six months after he was banned from the House network and fired by other members of Congress.
“I believe that I did the right thing, and I would do it again,” Wasserman Schultz said Thursday in an exclusive interview with the Sun Sentinel. “There are times when you can’t be afraid to stand alone, and you have to stand up for what’s right.
“It would have been easier for me to just fire him,” she said.
The Weston Democrat did fire Imran Awan last week after he was arrested on bank fraud charges at an airport while trying to leave the country.
As the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman, Wasserman Schultz is the most prominent Democrat who employed Awan. Her decision to keep employing Awan has been under fire from her Democratic primary challenger, Republicans and multiple conservative websites. They’ve suggested Wasserman Schultz is hiding something and the Awan matter is much more serious than she’s letting on.
His arrest, the congresswoman said, had nothing to do with the months-long investigation of Awan as an IT worker for a variety of members of Congress. An FBI affidavit filed with the criminal complaint said Awan and his wife claimed a property used to secure a home equity line of credit was a “principal residence,” when it was, in fact, a rental property. Wasserman Schultz said there still hasn’t been any evidence presented that he’s done anything wrong involving his work for Congress.

The level of cover-up on this case is amazing.
A family of Pakistani Muslims, hired by the DNC, with access to some of the most sensitive information available to Congress, is implicated in theft of computer supplies,and got hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for “part-time” work.
Work that gave them complete access to some of the most powerful Democrats in the Congress emails and data. Work that gave them network management level access. They had no security clearances.
One of them has fled the country.
Yet it is a non-story.
It is as if President Truman hired Communist Russians to read the mail of the President and look at all the information presented to the White House. Then they are discovered in illegal acts, one flees to Russia... and nothing is said in the media...
Her statements will be noted at sentencing.
Debbie double down! She figures there is nothing to lose, because no one expects the GOP to actually prosecute the case
to completion. The Atty. Gen. has other priorities.

Now she’s in deep-doo in the Awan IT espionage case.
Taxpayers aren’t exactly thrilled Schultz used mega-tax dollars to subsidize Paki treason.

The Pakistan govt apparently considers Imran very important b/c of his braggadocio----representations about his political power in the US, saying he's "from the Congress." The grateful Paki govt even provides Imran with a VIP police escort.

This is very easy to unravel. Pres Trump, AG Sessions, and SOS Rex Tillerson call in the Pakistani Ambassador for a "little chat." The Pakistani Ambassador surely knows plenty---like (a) what important issues Imran is "advising" Cong Debbie about, (b) the whereabout of Imran's wife, and, (c) the rest of the Paki IT gang.
