USS Maddox DD731 is attacked by three North Vietnamese torpedo boats in the Gulf of Tonkin. This, and a supposed second attack on Maddox and C. Turner Joy DD951 two days later, would be the justification for Congress to enact the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. The President signed the bill Aug 10. This resolution authorized LBJ to use what ever conventional force was necessary to aid the South Vietnamese in their war with North Vietnam.
Too friggin bad they didn’t fight to win.
For eight years to come, there was $150 billion to be had and doled out to defense contractors.
It only cost 58,000 men’s lives.
And in the end, the Communists got it all anyway.
All thanks to Democrats.
Particularly JFK and LBJ.
the money is made by prolonging the war.
Also on this day, I was very excited to go to the kids play area at church. There, my favorite wooden rocking horse was ready for me to ride with a cloud of dust and a hearty “Hi-yo Silver!”
no argument from me on your last point.
LBJ, Lady Bird and their still existing/breathing offspring made millions, some think billions, off of their involvement with Brown & Root alone during the Vietnam War.
The SOB died early because even his paltry conscience couldn’t take it’s guilt burden any longer!
I live in Austin and have all my life but I have NEVER been inside the LBJ Library despite many requests to go with others.
>All thanks to Democrats.<
Don’t leave out some of the Republicans like that POS from Oregon, Mark Hatfield.
When I left in ‘71 that war was won.
Those were the days, my friend.
We thought they would never end. ;)
Yes, you did win that war.
Thank you for that service.
My mother, an immigrant with an eigth grade education, told me back in the late 1960s that Vietnam was a political war.
And she was right.
And the Class of ‘75 Democrats turned their backs on the South Vietnamese and denied them arms and ammo we had promised them if the North invaded.
We got the spectacle of helicopers flying off the roof of the Embassy in Saigon.
Southeast Asia would become a killing field for three MILLION souls in the next few years.
Democrats can rot in hell.

Kissinger made a mint off of the Chinese opium trade getting 20-30% of our troops addicted... http://www.larouchepub.com/eiw/public/1989/eirv16n26-19890623/eirv16n26-19890623_034-kissingers_china_card_the_drug_c.pdf
“Democrats can rot in hell.”
I sure hope that’s where the feckwad mcnamara is. One of the worst.
We were less than a month away from NV’s surrender.
McN did wonders for Ford.
He should’ve stayed there...
The men in the trenches "fought to win".
However, the Elites never had any intention of America winning. The waste of human lives and destroyed material meant only one thing to them: profit.

H. R. McMaster’s “Dereliction of Duty” is a pretty good summary of the politics that led up to losing what had been won. The news media didn’t help with their biased reporting either e.g. Walter Cronkite’s “We’ve lost” type statements.
“I live in Austin and have all my life but I have NEVER been inside the LBJ Library despite many requests to go with others.”
I went in once when I was at UT-Austin. I had an assignment to find out the issues involved with the non-permanent inks present in felt-tip pens. LBJ signed almost every with a cheap felt tip pen and his signature is evaporating out of all the documents he signed. The preservation administrator there was a world expert in dealing with this problem.
Such issues all sorts ramifications in a legal sense.
One of the librarians there in a candid moment said they thought that LBJ assumed he’d live forever and wanted to be able to deny he’d signed all those things.
LBJ used several pens to put his one signature on each bill, and handed them out to friends as he wrote.
