Sorry I have to say this. But FR has become nearly unusable these days.
You used to have a feeling that within 30 seconds to a minute, your page would be resolved and loaded.
But no more. I don't know how many times lately, I have hit refresh or picked a new thread only to wait and wait and wait and then I give up and go to another site.
The powers that be recommend limiting your window options to twenty. My reply is, if that's the problem, the just taking the option away and making it twenty should be the solution.
And I know about DOS attacks - they can easily be filtered by a front-end server - so that shouldn't be a problem.
Anyways, whatever it is, it's getting series. And Hugh!
I haven’t had any problem. Really.
Bells and Whistles
We bought a Cadillac one time with all the bells and whistles. I was fixing bells and whistles more than I could drive it.
Finally parked it even though it ran fantastic because of all the bells and whistle problems and went back to driving the 67 Impala.
I would keep the Free Republic like it is. The fewer bells and whistles to break, the less problems and crap to fix all the time. :)
You just can’t stop biting the hands that feed you.
FR’s biggest problem right now isn’t technical.
It’s an attitude problem.
:) Well bless your little fingers!
We’re probably related!
Well, if I improve my attitude, do you think the DOS attackers will leave us alone? Or do you think a like button will solve the problem? Maybe if I throw in some sugar-coated emoticons?
Ugh! I used to go there now and then just to see what the enemy was up to. I always came away with an overwhelming desire for a shower.
I have.
What is your point?
Isn’t getting any better either. Maybe they hired an ex-Obamacare website tekie.
Posting for me seems to work better on iPhone, for now, for some reason.
No problems here. Were I you, I’d do some house keeping on your computer. Download CCleaner (free) and run it.
Im at the point in my life when I try to see the glass as half full. Yes at times it takes some real patience but where would we be without FreeRepublic? I trust Jim and John are addressing this and even if slow FR is well worth it. Ill be making a donation shortly and encourage others to do the same.
Amen.
Try shaveing his mom’s back first...
I WILL not use farce book....
Ditto.
Cheers to another hold out ;-)
latency always brings out the worshippers of the cloud, and I always find it annoying.
putting your service in the cloud is NOT a pure technology decision, it’s a business decision. cloud solutions only have one appreciable effect; they convert capital costs to permanent — and I mean endless — operating expenses. and once you get in, getting out can be a problem; vendor lock can be a real concern. whatever it isn’t as simple as the cloud fetishists like to think it is.
server hardware is cheap — mostly because the mindless are cramming their sh*t in the cloud as fast as they can stuff it. storage is cheap, co-location is cheap.
not to mention that AWS is run by the same greasy bastard that runs the WaPo, and azure is money in bill gates’ pocket.
Fr is a pretty big site, but it’s not that damn big. all I mean by that is that the latency issues are solvable.
all the people yelling, “OMG, you need to put FR in AWS” may have read a magazine or spun up a VM in the cloud, but they haven’t run a business.
Don’t you have a hairball to hack up?
Never.
The Next contestant is...!
That’s why I went there.... Firm believer in “knowing your enemy”...
PS: I had the same desire for a shower...(LOL)
Seems decent on my iPhone. I’ve seen a few hiccups but nothing major.
